I was so happy that I was able to make it down to my daughter's track meet yesterday. Man it was cold! We were there all of 5 minutes before my youngest told me "I don't like this, Mommy. I want to go home." LOL We didn't stay long and unfortunately I missed her first event by about 2 minutes (darn red light!). But was able to stay for her 2nd event.
I have to say I was, once again, very impressed with this particular organization. It's called Christian Homeschool Athletics Association, but the kids are called "saints." The founder, Coach Rick, is such a humble, sincere man with a heart for these kids like no one I've ever seen - and an amazing heart for the Lord. My husband started tearing up when he was telling me that Coach Rick started tearing up during the opening prayer. You'd see him off to the site just looking around at the crowd in amazement. There were probably about 700 people there, and this was only 1 of 2 track meets for the areas they cover.
The other thing I love is that it is never about winning. It's all about teaching them to do the best they can do and be proud of what they've accomplished. My daughter is not the most athletic kid so I really appreciate that. I know how much I hated sports because I was never good at them and always got teased.
Every single child that participated was given a medal, too, which my daughter is so proud of.
Coach Rick was also one of the "torch bearers" for the Olympics openings back in the 80's.
