The economy is forcing everyone to rethink the way they spend their vacations. Many families will be vacationing at home this year. This is not necessarily a bad thing because often it is the sites close to our home that we overlook. Our family has always enjoyed visiting Historical sites. However you can get so much more out of your guided or self tours if you do some preparations before hand.
1. Do some research on the place you are going to be visiting. Know what the background is and get interested.
2. Research the area to see if there are other sites near enough that you can visit it in the same day.
3. Do not rush through the sites. Enjoy and save the moment. Listen to the stories and view the scenery in the area.
4. Research to find a place to eat in the area so you do not go hungry or pack a picnic lunch and eat at local picnicking areas. Most Historical sites have picnicking sites available for free.
5. Find out if there is going to be an entrance fee of any kind. You do not want to arrive only to find that you do not have the money to get in.
6. Make sure you pack a variety of clothes in a backpack in case the weather changes rapidly. Pack an extra pair of socks and shoes if you are going to be hiking. Sweater in case it gets chilly. Maybe a pair shorts or jeans to stay warm or cooler.
7. Always take plenty of water with you. Water is the best way to hydrate yourself and you will feel so much better when you stay hydrated.
These tips will help you to have a more enjoyable vacation while visiting sites in any community. If you are going to vacation close to home you may as well enjoy it. I have a group called Come Journey With Me. This group has posts about places to visit while on vacation or anytime from member all over the country. It is a great place to search for photo essays of places that other members have found enjoyable.
