It does appear that there has been some fallout in the Michael Phelps bong photo scandal beyond just the embarrassment of the situation. Phelps was suspended from competitive swimming yesterday for three months hours after Kellogg announced it would not renew his contract.
USA Swimming decided to send a "strong message" to Phelps by suspending him even though he violated no anti-doping rules (pot as we all know is not a performance enhancer.) According to USA Swimming "Michael has voluntarily accepted this reprimand and has committed to earn back our trust."

It was as a one-two punch yesterday for Michael Phelps as Kellogg Co. announced that it will not renew Phelps' advertising contract. According to a Kellogg spokesperson, "Michael's most recent behavior is not consistent with the image of Kellogg."
I have a feeling Micheal Phelps will be sticking to booze and fancy parties from now on and will be staying away from smoky dorm rooms. This has been a tough week for him.

He should just make his fortune now being an underwear model.
In all seriousness though -- Michael Phelps is a star athlete and a lot of children look up to him. I know one of my big ani-pot arguments with my own children will definitely focus on health and not damaging their lungs. It's not the pot that bothers me as much as it is smoking.
He should have known better than to take bong hits in a dorm room. He knows how big a role model he is and with that comes great responsibility.
I can think of a few atheletes who have done worse...
1. Michael Vick
2. Plexico Burress
3. Pac-Man Jones
4. Jose Conseco
5. Pete Rose
6. Jason Giambi
