"Be true to ourselves, cherish whatever talent you possess, and in using it faithfully for the good of others you will most assuredly find happiness for yourself, and make of life no failure, but a beautiful success."

Greetings Dear Sisters Shed:
I trust you are all moving, drinking water and eating fruits, veggies and other healthy foods. I also have total faith that you are feeling better about yourselves since your first post. It seems that there will be many flowers growing in your life's garden in the Spring. All those negatives are quickly becoming fertilizer!
I am proud of all of you.
Many are working on Step 6 and many have completed it. Everyone please comment and support all the sisters who have completed this step. When you are finished with it, please take the time to give me a review of your progress in the group so far. Rattle on about all your activities and what has helped you the most.
We only want pictures of you - no matter what age or era. Pictures of your projects in this group are welcomed as well.
We have about six weeks left until Spring begins. Keep moving, be aware of every morsel that enters your mouth and chew slowly. Drink water. Smile. Thank you. Salud

My scale Layla was super friendly this morning hope she'll feel this way all of next week. My muscles are all a bit sore. Today I am treating myself to a pedicure after I get my hair done.
Can't seem to make it through an evening of no snacks - dang. I never had that habit, I picked it up from Richard. Oh well, picking up some celery, brown rice and fresh strawberries on the way home today.
You've got a great group going here. I pay attention.
Rose H. remember you're a couple of weeks behind us - so you might want to think about only 6 pounds by spring which would still be a pound a week...Ok well if you feel like saying more, it would be nice to put it in a post - Connie you could incorporate your Hot chic thing in your post if you wanted...Ok let me go check out what's happening. Thanks folks...have a great day! Smile. Salud
Congratulations, you're doing a lot of good to many with this idea and encouragement.
been thinking of you - hope all is ok now. Salud
MY husband still drinks coke and we buy it when it is on sale so we have 10-12 packs in the washroom.
LOL
I do ok just seeing the cartons in the washroom but when I saw an empty can... that did it. My will power went out the window!
This morning I got up and started cleaning house and will be doing so most of the rest of the day; someone is giving me a couch for my son's first apartment and I need to make room. Furniture-moving will be counted in my 'exercise quotient' for today and probably tomorrow as well. It will be good to get more of the clutter disposed of.
I also have a couple of healthy meal choices already prepared in the fridge so when I do get hungry I will have them immediately available. Planning ahead is critical for me.
I really appreciate the non-judgmental attitude about backsliding...I needed to hear that others had experienced it and that it really is okay and doesn't mean forever. I have had a very hard time with playing that negative tape in my head in the past and am working hard to erase it. The support and encouragement I get here means a lot to me and it really, really helps....
Don't take those wonderful pleasures in life for granted...and there's no falling off the wagon here...there are no mistakes only surprises...
Salud
I'm so glad that I'm (mostly) done with all that. What a relief!
Btw, My picture will be forthcoming I promise!!!!!!
I was one of the very fortunate to stop that 'girly stuff' aka 'the curse' between the ages of 45-46.....thank YOU GOD!!! Just stopping that made me feel like a brand new woman!!!! I have the hot flashes frequently......I usually walk around home with a cold damp washcloth close by!!!
Chris L. hang in there - weight plateaus but I'm sure you're feeling lighter and that's what counts and if you're burning more than you are taking in - you'll lose...3,500 calories makes a pound...want to know what a pound feels like - go pick up a can of vegetables - that's about 15 oz. Salud
A 4 oz serving of merlot has about 95 calories. (4 oz is 1/2 cup) So, laying off 4 glasses of wine a night is the same as running about 3-1/2 miles. And this assumes that you're only drinking 4 oz of wine per glass.
A couple of years ago, I stopped eating after 7:00 pm and lost 20 pounds rather quickly. I was snacking late at night, usually ice cream or nachos, so I avoided about 800 calories per day this way. This means I lost a pound about every 4-5 days.
I can't overemphasize how much easier it is to lose weight by eating less than by exercising. It takes nearly a mile to burn off an apple! A can of Soda is about 1-1/2 miles.
Curious how those 'lose 15 pounds in a weekend' diets work? Cause they do work - provided your intent is to lose weight, rather than fat.
At any given time, you probably are lugging between 10 and 20 pounds in your digestive tract. Go without eating for a day or two - or eat only grapefruit and cabbage for a day or two - and you'll see big, big results. You won't have any less fat, but you'll weigh less because your innards will be empty. Once you eat and refill your digestive tract, you'll weigh the same as before.
Also, fat isn't your body's only buffer. Your muscle cells also serve as temporary storage. When you eat a lot of sugary or starchy food (or a lot of carbs) your body stores the extra energy in your muscle cells as glycogen - short term energy. Glycogen is stored with 3-4 times its weight in water. When you hear about marathon runners 'carb loading,' they're taking advantage of this. They eat a big starchy spaghetti dinner before a race so their muscles are full of glycogen. When their body runs out of glycogen, short term energy, they 'hit the wall.'
Note that they'll also have to find a way of ridding themselves of all the water that was stored along with the glycogen. Orange juice, or grapefruit juice, also make the body want to empty some glycogen. That's why you'll have a glass of OJ in the morning, and then have to pee sooner - and a lot more - than you'd expect.
Anyway, when you go on a low carb diet, your body's glycogen supply depletes, along with the accompanying water, and you lose weight. Note that you're not losing fat. You're just losing water that was stored in your muscles. But, this is why low carb diets are so 'successful' their first few days/weeks.
Wanna lose fat? It's 3500 calories per pound.
Sorry, this went a little long. In summary, if you lay off your nightly wine, cheese, and crackers, and do enough exercise to keep your metabolic rate up, you should lose 4-5 pounds of fat per month. You may lose more weight than that the first couple of weeks, but it will just be water and stuff.

If you're sweating, your core body temperature (and therefore your metabolic rate) has been raised and you are burning calories...as well as losing fluids, etc.--why it's so important to stay hydrated before, during and after exercising.
