I guess hope and change are no longer the mantra of the Obama administration. Today President Obama said if the stimulus bill is not passed by the mid February deadline this country may not ever recover.
The President's words can be found in an op-ed piece in the Washington Post.Â
This article summarizes the present status of the stimulus bill. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090205/ap_on_go_pr_wh/congress_stimulus_126

Given how little in the bill will actually stimulate the economy I find this hard to believe. It sounds awfully like the statements made before the TARP program was passed. It had to be done immediately or the entire banking system would collapse entirely. I'm not certain another round of bailouts is the way to go, and certainly not in this kind of rush. Yes, something needs to be done to fix the economy, but wouldn't a well reasoned debate result in a better package?
