Update On Leg

I have been out of work from all fall that took place on 1/21/09.  I have been to the emergency room, and to the doctor's office 3 times.  The doctor has requested that I have a MRI. He wants to see what is going on.  I didn't realize until my 2nd appointment that my knee had pain on the inside.  I just knew that my lower shin hurt like crazy and was making it hard to get around. 

The doctor believes that it has to do with my meniscus.  He doesn't know if it is stretched, a tear, torn or what.  It if is torn, I will have to have surgery.  I don't believe that is it, if anything I think it is stretched.  I wouldn't be walking as good as I am if it was. 

My only concern is that I have the metal plate and screws in that leg.  I wonder how they are going to do the MRI with that in.  I have faith they know what to do and will ask when I get there.  I won't know the results until my doctor's appointment on Thursday.  I hope to know before then, but it is doubtful. 

I just want to get back to work.  Workmen's Comp. and Aflac have been great to me.  I was surprised how fast things have moved along.

I hope you find some relief really soon. How do you like Aflac? They were at my husbands job to see if the employess there wanted to sign up for it. We did not because we know nothing about it.

Many years ago I had a torn meniscus in my right knee. Ended up having surgery and have NEVER regreted it. I was lucky to have a great surgeon and I have never had any problems and that was over 35 years ago.

Good luck on the knee, but don't wait for them to ask about the metal plate. Tell them. If they go ahead and do it, and they weren't supposed to, and you didn't mention it, you can't put all the blame on them. Your body is your responsibility.

I have Titanium clips in my head and they do MRI,s. The doctors say it is safe, I hope so.

I'm sorry to hear about your fall and the pain in your leg that it left you with. I am sure they have ways to do a scan even though you have metal in your leg. Please let us know how you are doing and what the scan shows. My knee is slowly healing from the surgery I had on it. i know no one wants to have surgery---I certainly didn't---but if you do have a meniscal tear, arthroscopic surgery along with physical therapy really does help.

So sorry to hear about your trouble. Does the Dr. requesting the MRI know about the plate and screws? If not tell him or the tech. I have metal clips in my head and can't have a MRI.

I hope you told them about the metal in your leg at the 'MRI. It's important that they know that.
