I keep hearing how President Obama and the Democrats want Repulicans on board this stimulus. Why? President Obama and the Democrats have the votes to pass it without the Republican support. So again why? Would Democrats here explain to me why it is so important?

If the Democrats unilaterally pass the bill, and things get really bad despite the stimulus, then the Republicans can jump up and down, pointing fingers and say "Haha, told ya so."
But, if they do it with the Republicans' support, they can claim that everyone equally made a mistake.
just a hunch
Bills passed by both houses nearly always go to conference committee to unify the language and sometimes the elements. The conference committees have members of both parties. Having a few GOPs on board from the beginning makes it slightly harder for the ones on conference committee to totally gum up the works.
Those that are hanging on to the hope of plunging approval ratings should remember that Bush still managed to get whatever he wanted even tho his ratings were dropping like a rock.
I about fell out in the floor when I heard Obama say he was to blame for picking Dasche.... if this had been Hilly, Kerry, etc... they would of somehow blamed Bush... SO , I do give Obama credit for this one... Not that I would of voted for him.....
You summed it up perfectly.
