Ouch. Just when you thought things could not POSSIBLY get any worse for the most diseased, corrupt, fraudulent, failed political party in US history, they have officially surrendered their only true core...the racist southern white vote.
First, they insulted these idiots by choosing a woman to run as VP candidate, and now, they've urinated in their faces with their decision to allow Michael Steele to try to pick up the shattered pieces of what remains of this national disease known as the republiCON party.
I personally think that Michael Steele is probably a very decent man, otherwise, and frankly, I haven't a clue in the world why he would want to publicly align himself with the most racist, divisive, intolerant organization known to man. BUT, it is what it is...I'm sure that republiCON leadership was equally as shocked to learn that they actually had a token black amongst them, that was actually willing to admit party affiliation in public.
There are two things about this that make it a real sign of the end of the republICON party (thank GOD):
1) It is a shamefully transparent attempt at "me-too-ism." If Obama had not been as universally adored as he has been, this selection would NEVER have happened. Period. Don't anyone kid themselves. The GOP is simply trying to ride on the coattails of Obama with this selection. Nobody with a working brain thinks for a SECOND that this was part of a grand change within the "grand" old laughing stock party.
2) By making this selection, the GOP is now officially telling their entire racist base that their votes are no longer needed. Now, on the surface, this would seem to be a good thing, except that, as pointed out above, nobody with a working brian thinks for a second that, had Obama not swept the world like a storm, the GOP would ever even CONSIDER choosing a man or woman of color to run their show.
Scratch underneath the surface, however, and you can quickly see just what a bad strategic move this is for them, in the longterm, and why that makes it such GREAT news for America, and anyone else praying for the quick death of the utterly diseased GOP.
The republiCON party is NOTHING without their racist, sexist bigots in the south. Period. They have effectively removed 98% of the entire black voting population from their voting block over the past several years, and are close to that type of "success" with every other minority group now as well. Other than the utter bullshit facade of them being the "great protectors of the nation," they've also all but eliminated probably 80% of voting women from their rolls.
They've never done particularly well with educated people (which SHOULD give cause for concern amongst party faithful, but apparently does not, for probably obvious reasons), fail miserably in major cities, and, in general, have reduced their constituency to the white, male, racist, southern vote, and that's about it.
How do you think Cleo and Jim Bob are going to react to "their party" selecting a black to run the show? Especially after they foisted a WOMAN on them as a VP candidate. Next to blacks, the only thing that these lowlife, knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing cretins hate more in positions of power is women.
Just as these losers hate blacks and love their religion chock full of hypocrisy and intolerance, they also hate seeing women treated equally with men. It's an aversion to them. It runs against their inbred line of thinking.
So, now what? Was Mr. Steele selected for the sole purpose of bringing about a quicker, more sure demise for the pathetic GOP? Or, are there actually some who believe that he will somehow ressurect this national disgrace of a political party?
And, ironically, when you look at the monumental task that faces him, you can actually see a mirror image of Barak Obama, to a degree. Both men were chosen to clean up disastrous messes left by irresponsible, ignorant, fraudulent republiCONs who had no business whatsoever being in positions of power.
Think about it...who the hell would WANT the job of trying to breathe life into this putrid, rotting corpse called the republiCON party? Would YOU want to try to stand dominion over dangerously delusional neocon freaks, anatical fundie religious nazis, and hate-filled, racist bigots, and try to create a political party with that mess? No thanks.
It should be at least mildly entertaining to watch this unfold, to say the least. My guess is that the party will simply continue to flail about aimlessly, obstructing any progress forward that democrats attempt to make, and further pissing off the American public, until sometime in the near future, perhaps as soon as 2020, the party will effectively cease to exist, and will be replaced by a functioning, viable party, in much the same way that the republiCONs replaced the Whigs.
My hat's off to Mr. Steele. I hope that he's made of steel, because he has chosen to undertake nothing short of a monstrous challenge of epic proportions. Unlike republiCONs of the day, who hope that our newly elected president fails, I actually hope Mr. Steele can find a way to succeed.
The party that he represents has been in dire, desperate need of a complete, total overhaul for the past 40 years. I wish him luck with his project. Let's all hope that what he brings about is a real, viable, working, honest, effective party that represents more than just hatred, division, obstructionism, and corporate welfare/greed.

A new party of Conservatives that are not shackled with the history of the GOP, a laughable term at best, would have a better chance of bringing a new place for true Conservatives to go and give them a start from which they can build and not obstruct....where they can move towards a brighter future, instead of being hampered by a dismal past.

Yes African Americans can not only be Republican but they can be Conservative. Many have a solid conservative background rooted in their religious faith (but to the Democrat, religion is evil) and only vote Democratic because of a tradition which they have never questioned. This was the problem JC Watts faced when he first ran for office.
I am still disappointed that African American and Roman Catholic Alan Keys never got enough votes in 2000. I am still annoyed that JC Watts managed to hide discretely for the past couple of years because we would have drafted him to the nomination. You're factually incorrect. While he was instrumental in bringing about necessary change, he did NO such thing himself. Check your facts. This is a long-held myth that has been highly regarded for generations, but it is simply untrue.
However, be that as it may, the republiCON party of today, and of the past 40+ years, is NOT Abe Lincoln's party, in case you hadn't noticed. For the record, initially, Lincoln strongly opposed equal rights for blacks. He really had no use for it. It wasn't until he was dragged through the hell of the civil war that he began to sway his opinion, and by the end of his life, he actually DID support equal rights, even though he did nothing at the time to bring it about, and frankly didn't have anywhere near the power to do so at the time.
Whatever he did, 150 years ago, has NOTHING, repeat NOTHING to do with the republICON party's decision in the late 60's to welcome and warmly embrace and nurture the racist core of the south, as a political strategy. At the time, Lyndon Johnson publicly stated "We've surrendered the south for the next 40 years," or something to that effect. He was referring to the democratic party's decision to REJECT the overt racism of the south, and embrace instead, the civil rights and equality that Lincoln had at least acknowledged towards the end of his life.
Johnson knew that the democratic party's decision to embrace civil rights would alienate the racist south, and would cause voters there to turn against them, just as the republiCONs knew that by embracing this racist element, they could garner political success for decades.

Lincoln was the first president elected from the republican party and his intentions may have been good but he broke the constitution by not allowing the Southern states to leave the union as the constitution specifies as the right of all states. Slavery had nothing to do with the civil war except to rally the North to a real cause. Eisenhower is the only republican president I can remember in my time that was worth having.
