New Camera Help Wanted

I am interested in the answers too. I am looking to buy a new camera also. In addition to what you mentioned I also would like one that has a lens for taking close up shots.

My brother Ross has a Canon and the other brother (Brian) has a Panasonic. Ross probably has more camera experience so I'd defer to him, but I suspect that there are a lot of good ones out there. I like the whole Easy Share concept with reduced-cost printing -- do you have the printer with that? I would also check out Epinions and Consumer Reports for some more ideas, or even Amazon (though I do tend to get lost there sometimes). I should probably trade up myself (from my digital Polaroid), one of these days. I hate looking through those little LCD viewfinders and miss using my old JamCam with the "open sights". Wonder if there's a digital camera that doesn't have an LCD viewfinder, or has one that you can turn off when using? Thanks for posting this!

it is great i zoom in from my house to my moms and she lives only 3 thousand feet away and i get great pics nothing better have i found that is as good as this and i have owned cannons and kodaks and such by far this is my fav and you can make videos and add them to youtube.

I just upgraded a very old point and shoot digital to the Nikon Coolpix L18, and I LOVE IT! Now, mind you, if you are looking for more than a point and shoot it's probably not going to be for you, but for me it's perfect. It's very tiny, can take great action shots (something I had a hard time finding in small dig. cameras), and even great night shots, and the zoom is amazingly powerful and crisp images from it! Only thing I haven't figured out yet on this camera is how to make the videos work on my computer...and it's a computer issue I think, because I can get them to work on others.

If you are looking for computer compatibility, HP is the best route to go, I don't know their price range, but I paid like 200+ for mine, which I simply load onto my laptop and onto the Internet, if I want to print them out, I do on my own printer. I do not pay for developing. I have had this one since 2003.

I was thinking about a Canon Powershot SX10-IS Black ~ 10MP Digital Camera w/ 20x Optical Zoom but I would like a view finder as sometimes it's hard to see a LCD screen in some lighting.

Maybe my review of the Kodak Z650 will help. It has the viewfinder, or LCD. Good zoom.
REVIEW Perhaps obsolete now, but they still make the Z-series. Just saw a Z12xx (something) at Office Max on sale for $159, with 12X zoom. Good luck.

I use Panasonic cameras. My current is a Lumix dmc fz8. Most of the photos I post on here are from that camera.

I have the Kodak Easyshare Z710, and LOVE it. It has a 10x optical zoom, which is fantastic. It's a point and click, but it's a really nice one. It's 7.1 mega pixels, which isn't bad, either. I got it on clearance for $120 about 18 months ago. The 710 is an older model, and not available anymore, but there are several others comparable, or nicer-

The Z series is a bit more, price wise, but they currently have some with 12x and 24x optical zoom. I don't even bother with digital zoom, it's crap. The Z980 is a 24x Optical, with a wide angle lens, which is also a SCHNEIDER-KREUZNACH VARIOGON lens. Both of my Easyshares have had that type of lens, and I love it. My daughter has the Kodak I won here on Gather (her Christmas gift) and it does NOT have that type of lens, and it does make a difference in the clarity of the pictures.

The Z980 has 12 MP's, which is fantastic as well. It's not available until April, and fits in your budget- it'll retail for $400. Prints can be made up to 30 x 40in, as well, at full resolution, without distorting the image.

I bought my daughters on the web, I took a look at the rating of some cameras and bought the one with the best rating. It is a pretty good camera, the pics from my photos is fromthat camera. Look at the ratings and the pixie number.
I just guessed.

Nikon Coolpics works well for me and I don't think you need to spend $300 or more

I love the Canon. The Canon Rebel is coming down in price. I love the digital prints it takes. That is what we are saving for.

I was looking at a Rebel, but I think I'm leaning toward the Kodak Z980.

I love my camera since I got it last year. It is a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10 Awesome zoom & I really love the macro ability this camera has.

Any of my pics on gather before Christmas were taken with Panasonic cameras. Anything posted after Christmas is with my new Sony DSC-H50. It is not a compact camera but it has a 15X optical zoom and a large LCD screen (3") and a viewfinder. It has automatic controls and manual. You also can buy macro and zoom lenses for it. I am still learning all that it has to offer. But you know my pictures so you can judge by them.

My husband bought me a nikkon coolpix for christmas, and I love it!!!! For a point and shoot camera it takes amazing photos.

I have always hear that the nikon's and the cannons are the best.
My friend who is a photographer has both.

I just got the Canon Powershot SX10IS on Amazon about 2 weeks ago for only $330 and it's AMAZING. I haven't had time to upload anything yet, but I've taken some shots with it and absolutely love it!

I have a Canon Rebel, which is an awesome camera. I bought an older model on Amazon.com, which was around $475ish. It's the kind of camera where you can get fancy if you want to, and buy extra zoom lens, flash, etc. But, you can also just use the basic automatic setting.

I love the HP's. I have I think the 7-- now. It takes great pictures if the lighting is decent. It is fairly inexpensive. I think I only paid about $200.

I am a fan of Canon.

I wouldn't have any idea, I usually leave the electronics to my husband and he figures it out. Hopefully someone was able to help you find a good camera.
