Slowly changing from Winter in preparation for Spring February is a great month. Here we will look at some of the subtle changes that will happen this month.
All photos taken in February, 2008.
On the 7th I took this photo of an icicle melting from the eaves of my home.

By the 9th the Red Winged Black Birds had returned to Frito Rito Pond. We still had snow in 2008, this year its mostly gone.

By the 14th the Great Blue Herons had returned to their nest sites near Yakima and were seen mousing in fields near Ellensburg 40 miles away.

On the 16th I was so excited to see that my Snow Drop flowers were pushing through the frozen earth.

Also the tulips were making an entrance.

There was still evidence of winters presence. Like this shot of falls fallen leaves frozen in time. Taken on the 21st in a shaded spot at Matoon Pond.

As well as gray cloudy days.

But in the end there was that promise of warmer and sunnier days ahead. Snow Drop flowers taken on the 27th 2008 my yard.
