Scam Email

It's a (very small) shift on the Nigerian scam.

Yep that is a scam. The name "lucie.guessan1988" hummm "loose guessing?"

I just checked "her" profile. There isn't one.

Wow, her father was a magnet, not a magnate!! Awesome, lol.
You should send this to gather as spam so they can get rid of it.

I noticed that too, I wonder if he had a problem with the fridge?
I did, with a not that it's not just spam it's a scam and that "her" profile had no info.

Gather takes spam, scam and solicitous comments and mail messages very seriously, and will take appropriate action against members that use community resources in this manner.

While you have the ability to block the receipt of mail messages from specific members   and to remove comments from your content , you should always report significant abuses of this nature to Gather.

Contact Gather Member Support by clicking the "report as spam" link located near the top right-hand corner of the message.

A report form will be displayed with all relevant fields automatically filled in for you.

Simply add any additional information to the description box on this form (optional), and click the "Submit" button.




No online community is immune from occasional attempts at 'phishing' or other forms of scams or fraud. Those perpetrating such attempts will have their accounts closed immediately by Gather. To help you identify these activities in the community, Gather will change the offender's display name to include the word SCAM appended to both ends, like this:

SCAM-username-SCAM

If you receive a mail message on Gather from a member with a similar name, it is likely that the message is a scam and that Gather has already taken appropriate action. Unfortunately, their mail message will remain in your inbox even though their account has been terminated.




You should consider any private message questionable if it is from a person you do not know, and they:

• Ask you to respond to a real email address, rather than a Gather private message.
  
• Offer you money, a money-making opportunity, or other material benefit.
  
• Request personal or financial information of any form.
  
• Ask you to transfer, hold, or receive money or other negotiable items regardless of the currency.
  
• Express a romantic or sexual interest in you.
  
• Entice you to visit a website outside of Gather, especially if it involves any of the above.

Elizabeth B.-A lot of elderly people get scamed with these emails. It's really quite sad.

All this is good advice and I agree with it.

If it sounds too good to be true... it is. Old adage but so true. I always ask myself, about why that stranger would have contacted me, why me? There's never a good answer.
