Is Al Roker off his Rocker?

I was watching the Today Show this morning.  A woman cloned her dog for $155,000.  Al Rocker asked her if she feels guilty spending that kind of money on a dog.  She nearly cried.

Now, this may seem stupid to most of us, but when is it Al Rocker's business to make someone feel guilty about how they spend their money?  Should we ask drug dealers the same question, or how about alcoholics or doll collectors.  It's our business how we spend our money, or so I thought last I check off Capitalist Dog next to my name.

Is this Communism at its best?  Let's all be one, and do what's best for the state?  Let's ask Al what kind of car he drives.  Is it a cheap, fuel efficient hybrid?  I doubtt that.

Scary ain't it?

I think she has every right to spend that money on a cloned dog if she wants to and it's none of his business.

Not sure how I feel about this one. He asked a question that most people are thinking. Personally, I would not do it. All dogs have their own personalities and that's the cool part.

She went for an INTERVIEW...that implies that a variety of questions will be asked...right ? I don't see a big problem with the question...

The entire thing is too crazy for me...I don't care how they spent their money...and I love my pets...but REALLY....(just my opinion)

About spending money: It is not like you've burned a pile of cash! When money is spent on most things, it then spreads around in goods and services of all kinds, employing all kinds of people and increases all kinds of benefits for many in our social economy.

The only thing I have to say is there are so many dogs in shelters needing a god home. But it is her money I guess and it does go into the economy.

Like identical twins this is not the same dog only a clone of it

I wonder if she would clone her husband or children?
it is a fair question.... I doubt EVERYONE in her family is so well off that they couldn't have used some real help AND the shelters are FULL of critters who CERTAINLY could.

I love my dog, will hate to lose her, but cloning her would not bring her back.

I find it a good question too, especially in today's economy. There are thousands of dogs in shelters that need good homes and many, many puppies that are going to be born in shelters in the next few months (result of raids on puppy mills)....and I don't know the family, but can they really afford that? I realize that it's their money, but that's about the cost of my whole house. I'd hate to see them lose everything months later because of this purchase.

While I think she can do as she wishes with her money I as well think its crazy.
Great article. I think the woman, and everyone, can spend thier money as they so feel as long as the cash ain't obtained illegally and the family isn't going without the necessities.

I love it! She's happy, and she says the puppy is just like its clone. Then, is she telling the truth? It's too soon to tell, but she said, he came right to her. That's interesting, and maybe true, as I have heard that cells have memory. Interesting.

I guess he accomplished what he set out to by asking that question - people are still talking about the interview. Normally we would have it filed under "forget at first opportunity."

I wouldn't spend that sort of money on cloning, but I know how deep pet lovers care about their pets. It's her money to spend as she wishes, but with so many homeless animals I think she'd have spent her money more wisely to donate it to some of the shelters and adopt a rescue dog. Just my thoughts.......
