Being frugal used to mean that you were either poor or a stingy scrooge-like penny pincher. In today's economic downturn it simply means you're trying to survive without going broke. But, that doesn't make it any easier to do without the things you want. How do you make frugal seem cool?
The easiest way is to think of being frugal differently. It doesn't mean you're doing without the things you desire. Or that you're depriving anyone of the things they need. The best way to think of it is that you're accumulating wealth for the things that are truly important to achieving the goals you and your family have set.
After you start to put it in this context it becomes almost (I said almost) fun to see where and how much you can save. And it doesn't have to be a large amount of money to get you thinking about more ways to save.
So the next time you're thinking about making a purchase take a moment to ask yourself if what you're buying will get you any closer to your goals. If not don't buy it. Sometimes to have everything you really want you have to stop buying things you only want.
