Court Says School Can Expel Lesbian Students

RIVERSIDE, Calif. —  A California appeals court has ruled that a private Christian high school has the right to expel students because of an alleged lesbian relationship.

The 4th District Court of Appeal in Riverside on Monday upheld California Lutheran High School's right as a private, religious organization to exclude students based on their sexual orientation.

Well if it's "in the rules" then I understand
While I may not agreev with their policy, it is thier right. The only thing that truly concerns me is the part that says ALLEGEDLY.

Interesting story. Bad move by the school but they can pretty much do what they want. That is why tax money, including vouchers, should not go to them.

There is such a thing as holding to a standard. When a student goes to a religious school, they sign agreements that they will act according to the standards of the institution. If they break with the agreement, the association is terminated. I don't believe it is discriminatory at all.

I used to teach in a small private academy. Every parent reads and signs these agreements. They know and understand that they can have the student/school relationship terminated at any breach of the agreement. This is the right of any private organization.

just the same as with a job, there are rules to follow and when those rules are broke, no matter who you are you can be discharged. I don't see it as being discriminatory either.

I am a Lutheran and this is only right........it is, after all, a private school, and there are rules by abide by..........religious classes are taught.....the Bible is, after all, against homosexuality....it says so, loud and clear......
I don't know why people get all "huffy" about it....since this is a PRIVATE, not public, school!!!!

I agree that if it was a public school, the result would be different. And I agree with David. C that this is why tax money should not go to private schools.

Whether you agree with their actions or not, since it is a private and relgious entity, they do have the right to exclude students who contradict their beliefs.

I am saddened for them, but glad. Let me explain, maybe they will be able to get an education now without religious interference. Few things make me as sad as young people being brain washed with religion.
