Stuck in My Head

I just finished up watching the last of the available episodes of Shikabane Hime (you can read more about the series here) on Hulu the other day, so it really isn't surprising that I have the theme song to the show stuck in my head. Of course, the song is in Japanese. Did I mention that I don't speak Japanese? Granted, I do know what the English translation is (have to love subtitles), but that isn't what is stuck in my head. Instead, I have the Japanese version playing in my mind.

Does that ever happen to you? Getting a song in a language that you don't actually speak stucl in your head?

This isn't the first time this has happened to me. I've had theme songs from anime and songs from Bollywood movies stuck in my head before.

It happened in high school. My Austrian pen pal and I would make mix tapes for each other from the radio and mail them to one another. So a lot of his were techno German songs, or songs I knew in their English forms that had been redone in German. Fun!

Oh yes, the song, Sukiyaki became very popular in the U.S. in 1961 - it has such beautiful rhythm that I still sing it - I've since learned a bit of Japanese though...I need to view that series you're referring to...thanks for info. Salud

Yes, There is a french singer named Ali Z or something like that. I heard a song of hers on Youtube. It is all in French but for some reason it really clicked with me. So I sometimes get it in my head and start singing it. I am sure I am not saying anything correctly, I just sing what sounds closest to it.

yeah...me and my wife watch a lot of subed anime, i actually eneded up downloading a few of the songs. i cant think of the worst one right now. but it might have to be from bleach "happy people" ...that one was bad...

Ryan, I haven't watched Bleach.

I really so like Shikabane Hime. The second season is currently airing in Japan, and I am looking forward to it coming to the States.

I remember singing in German when I was in grade school, but I really don't have a knack for picking up foreign languages.

I've had that happen before and I have NO clue what I'm humming/singing along to.
