Don't you love how the news stations get your attention???!!! I guess, whatever works! I am in Oklahoma, and today, our entire state is under a, "State of Emergency", as declared by our governor. Yes, it has been icing all day long, and the roads are extremely dangerous, if not traveled with care. Yes, it is good that they are warning folks to stay home, unless it is an emergency... but, "State of Emergency"??!! I have seen so many horrible events in our world, even horrid natural disasters, that I can see being listed as a State of Emergency, but come on. This is something that 90% of us have a choice in. We CAN choose to stay home. Federal offices, courthouses, etc. are all closed. The schools are closed. Even if schools weren't closed, I wasn't sending my kids tomorrow... I decided that as I tried to scrape my windshield today, leaving my car running forever, and the ice not budging.
We had a much worse ice storm in late 2007... think I posted some pics of that on here. That one was scary... sitting inside, hearing all of the trees popping, as even the hundred year old, huge, sturdy trees, snapped in two. Electric lines were popping, with the weight of the ice. That... yes, that was frightening.
They are predicting, although we will stay below freezing all day tomorrow, that the ice will move out by early afternoon. Then, life in Oklahoma will return to normal. We're Okies... we've seen worse! lol
I'm not trying to make light of the current situation, honestly, it is sad. We have had two deaths in the state today, due to road conditions, and that is a tragedy, no matter what. But it sure makes me thankful... my kids are home with me, we are warm, and we are not getting on the roads... and I'm also not letting them play outside until the ice has melted, because I don't wanna HAVE to get on the roads, due to a broken bone or busted head from a fall. I'm taking precautions...
But come on... don't get my kids all worked up by cutting into EVERY television show, frantically announcing that we are in a "State of Emergency"...
What do you all think? I mean, Katrina... that was a State of Emergency. 9/11 was a State of Emergency. Is this overblown, or am I just overly grouchy??? lol Would love to hear your opinions!

I hope you remain warm tomorrow! ;) Our weather has been a heat wave. Or, well, a January heat wave, anyway- a whopping 20 degrees. Time to break out the shorts!
overblown is an understatement
