I have done it since I was young and never mentioned it until I was about 10. My Mom thought I was weird but was nice about it and after that I thought I was crazy! I could never find anyone to relate...but I didn't try to hard. It was embarrassing to me. Sure enough my 9 year old daughter asked me why she counted everything out of the blue!

My own answer is I count
everything
and delight that I can usually force things to add up in some way to the number 13!
My screen name (obviously), address,phone number,license plate, zip code, birthdates, appointments, grocery totals, change from a purchase,number of items purchased, mileage on the car, gas at the pump,people in line, cost of an item or total of a dinner check. My kids roll their eyes at just how often 13 pops up around me! I have a niece that is a counter too!
Strange thing to have in common!

No. Unless someone is intentionally doing it for fun, or as a prank. I find it irritating as well as a potential security risk. I would rather send an individual email, where appropriate.
