Dylan Thomas was born on October 27, 1914 at No 5, Cwmdonkin Drive in Swansea, and died on November 9, 1953 in St Vincent's Hospital, New York. In his lifetime he wrote a lot of great poems, some including 'Fern Hill', 'The hunchback in the park' and of course 'Do not go gentle into that good night'. He's also known for writing the 'play for voices' Under Milk Wood, and the collection of stories, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog.
Dylan Marlais Thomas is maybe Wales' best-known writer.
He also wrote short stories and scripts for film and radio, which he performed most often himself. His public readings in America were highly acclaimed......
Dylan Thomas’ father had been a strong, militant man most of his life, and when in his eighties, he became blind and weak, Dylan was disturbed seeing his father become "soft" or "gentle." In this poem, Thomas trys to arouse his father to continue being the fierce man he had previously been.......
Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
