A Pennsylvania dog groomer thought she had come up with the perfect sideline for her business: Piercing kittens' ears and necks and marketing them as "gothic" over the Internet.

I don't think it's right. But I also don't like when dogs get their ears and tails cut off and pinned back, and people do that all the time.

In most cases, docking the tail or ears is done for cosmetic reasons. Specifically, Doberman's have their ears docked ONLY because it makes them look more ferocious.

Where is the outrage at that? It's actually cutting a part of the animal off, as opposed to piercing the skin of the animal.

Good question.
One of the dogs we have adopted had her dew (not sure on the spelling) claw removed, and her tail docked by her original owners. I have no idea why it was actually necessary to have this done. We were told it was because they did not want her to knock anything over. She is a big dog. But, do not get a big dog if you are not prepared to deal with the consequences of having one, I say.

The Egyptians did put earrings in their cats' ears sometimes... But NECKS? GROSS!
Egyptians also inserted crocodile dung pessaries into their vaginas as a contraceptive. I don't recommend that either.
