I've been using Microsoft Office, Word mostly, since, I think, 1989. I'm good with it and use it at work as well as home. The other day I "upgraded" to Office 2007 at home. It's bringing me to tears!
I've spent hours with it and have discovered that I can't find most of the functions I use every day because Microsoft decided to do away with them or hide them. I have a 20-inch monitor, but the screen size is still reduced by all the junk (which Microsoft calls "ribbon") at the top. I hate it, hate it, hate it!
This program has cut my productivity by at least 90 percent.
So I've been searching the Internet for a solution, and the best I can find is another piece of software that will make Office 2007 look like Office 2003, which is what I want, but they want me to pay for it after a trial period. I will not pay more for a program that is already overpriced. Microsoft knows darned well that long-time Office users hate this program, that fixing what isn't broken is just plain stupid. And their Windows Updates ought to include this fix for free.
Do you have a suggestion other than "get used to it"?

Good luck.
And I am not a novice computer user.
Every time I've used this program, I find more aggravations. I know I can go to the Internet to find answers to each specific problem, but I don't want to have to waste
so much time every time I have a little job to do with Word (and probably Excel, too; I haven't checked that one yet).
I realize Microsoft provides ways to do what I need to do. My problem is that I do not want to learn a new word processing program when the old one was just fine. The solution I'm looking for is how to make this program look like it's always looked before.
I can't do a darned thing with this piece of trash!
It's a fine program for people new to Word. But Microsoft is certainly alienating many, many experienced users.
I'd reinstall my old Office, but it's Office 2000, which sometimes causes problems with Word 2003 files I bring from work to finish at home. So now I'm deciding whether to buy the software that will make office 2007 like Office 2003 or buy an Office 2007 book. I think it'll be cheaper to buy the software unless I can find the book used.
That is if any of the help others are giving you to do what you want to do don't work.

Besides, I have Vista now, and Vista hates most of the software I used on my other computers.
Microsoft has been a real screwup for me.
I have been in computers since 1979 (Yes, BEFORE the PC), and I can't stand Office 2007, because they don't have the buttons for what I do. I have to spend HOURS researching each individual thing I want to do, but I don't have the time.
Try Open Office dot org. www.ooo.org It is freeware, and is as close to Office 2003 as I can come without rolling back to Office 2003.
I haven't trusted the Microsoft operating systems since my mother got ME. I used Win98 until recently, honest. As a matter of fact, I still have it in the basement. It would still be upstairs, but the computer it was on was really old and wouldn't start up correctly anymore. But I did figure out a workaround, so I can still go downstairs and use it if I have to. No printer, though, downstairs. I would never have upgraded to Vista if I could have found XP. I use XP at work.
To this day, I still fight with Word. Having said that, I'm not sure if that would help or hinder me in 2007.
Sorry you are having so many issues. You may want to get a Dummies book so you can take advantage of the new changes. Good luck.
