Wiley had this large place on the top of his foot that he sucked on. It was swollen, larger than a quarter and deep red. It also had no hair on it. He had been exposed to ringworm so I suspected that was the problem.
On Friday I took him to the veterinarian and was told that it was not ringworm. He ask if he was left along all day and could be getting bored or anxious. I told him that I was with him most of the time but that the last of Novemeber I had to board him. Then in December we had a lot of visitors home and he seemed to get nervious at that. The Vet said that was the problem. Sometimes when dogs get nervious or do not get the attention they are used too, they will suck themselves. It is usually on the foot.
He said that the place was too large to remove and he did not think it was cancer although he could do a test to see if I wanted. I did not want that at the present time. Dogs are just like humans. They get anxiety and depression too.
He gave him a shot of steroids at the site. I have to put some medicine on him twice a day for 10 days and then take him back. I can already tell that he is not sucking it as much. I will know more in 10 days.
