When I was a little girl, we had a dog named Peanuts. When he was a baby, he looked like a little peanut and he was the runt of his litter but he was so cute! He was part poodle, part miniature sheepdog and part chihuahua. Definitely a cute combination. I had begged my Dad to let me have a dog and he said we could if I got a dog house for him. So, I called the construction company where my Dad worked and talked one of the guys into building the dog house for me. I was a bold kid.
We brought Peanuts home and he stayed in the dog house part of the first night and that was the end of the dog house. From that point on, he stayed in the utility room at night and in the rest of the house the remainder of the time. He wandered the neighborhood as he pleased and I wouldn't even want to think about all of the generations of dogs he sired.
Anyway, one evening, I decided to have some chocolate ice cream after dinner and had taken a bowl into the den to watch TV. Peanuts loved people food and was completely spoiled. He sat down at my feet and stared at me anticipating a taste of the treat I held in the bowl. So, I put a little bit of it on my finger and let him lick it off. Well, that was the end of my peace because Peanuts went nuts for the chocolate ice cream.
He wouldn't leave me alone. He jumped on the sofa next to me with his floppy ears perked up and tried to stick his nose in the bowl. I had to get up and put the bowl up in the air to keep him from getting it. It was so funny that I was laughing until tears rolled down my face. I finally gave in and gave him the bowl so he'd leave me alone. I've never seen a dog that liked chocolate ice cream before so much!
I don't know if my story expresses how funny it was but if you could have seen that mournful little face looking up at me and how he whined to get me to give him more, you would have been laughing, too.
Peanuts was definitely a character and I'll have to tell you more stories about him later. For now, I've got to get out of this place and away from the noise across the street where they are having some Latino function that is blasting the whole neighborhood with whatever they are talking about.
