Just a Few Thoughts

I've been reading posts today and I realized that there are alot of unhappy people here.  One person didn't like the content on Gather anymore and several have talked about trolls.

I don't know why anyone would give someone a low rating.  I generally give a ten or don't leave one at all.  I try to treat others the way I would lke to be treated!

I watched another person ask for advice and got an overwhelming response.  That's what I like about Gather.  You can get everyone's opinion on something.  But please if you don't agree just state so and be nice about it.  Maybe I'm niave but I think we can agree to disagree.

I love being on Gather and everyone has been wonderful to me.  I'm thankful for that and I'm thankful for my friends here.  And I'm even thankful for the people who don't always agree with me.

Not to be cliche...but...if you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything at all. To me, this means, there is no reason to be nasty. You don't have to be sugary sweet about everything or agree with everything or everyone either. But I see no reason at all to be nasty or mean, or resort to name calling when you don't agree with someone's post or comment.
I have read over some comments today that I honestly thought were uncalled for, and unnecessary. But they did bring about more points and page views. And most likely that was the point of them to begin with. I personally would rather not be caught up in drama.

Just agreeing with you Christine. Leaving you a 10. Feel free to disagree with my agreeing with you. hehe

I'm glad you're here Christine. One of the saddest moments was when the so called trolls, low raters, haters, jumped onto my husband's material. My husband was so happy during his short time here on Gather. He felt like what he had to say meant something to someone. He has never been one to write and for a few days he made certain to write about his fishing here for others to read. Then the low rates started..They'd come the instant his material was up and it really offended him. He hasn't been around Gather long enough to know anyone and I think that's what makes it easier to stay. I have friends here and I know there are good people here. He didn't know that. He got attacked with the low rates and took it very personal. I feel bad for him. He really seemed to like it here.

Some people are never going to be happy and just have to attack others to feel worthy. Don't let them get to you. They are who they are..Just remember that not everyone is that way. Some of us enjoy having friends and getting feed back....and just plain having fun!!~

Encourage hubby to come back but just have him turn OFF his ratings. No reason to stifle his enjoyment of sharing his interests with others just because a few like to throw their weight around.
It is important that men have an outlet for their interests since many wives are not that into the hunting, fishing and sports talk that they like!

christine I totally agree with you,, Gather is meant to be fun no drama, no take me or leave, no neg point at all (be fine with me to eleimate all together). No fake comments no kissing up for contest, etcetcetcetc...

mreslisae, try to explain that to your husband. The fact that he can connect with whoever he wishes, and also once he learns who's trolling him, he can block them. Encourage him to come back on and enjoy the parts that he liked and igore the rest.

Good post Christine! I have read some things on here today that were just mean and nasty. There was no reason for the remarks that were made, other than to get a response from the other person.......I don't think there is ever a need to leave a nasty comment for anyone, just don't say anything at all if you don't agree. I always rate a 10.

I think the stressed of the economy are starting to get to people, even here on Gather. I've noticed a pattern of poor ratings on many of the entries in the Boca essay contest. It's sad but not worth letting one's blood pressure rise.

I just ignore others who want to be mean. I know who my friends are on here. If there are people out there who don't like someones post, skip it and go on to another.

There are some people that have mean and hateful spirits. It's just life. I don't like it, but it's something that happens no matter where you go.

I learn from my mistakes. (Or at least I hope I do!) So if someone disagrees and writes it with compassion it is fine. It is the barbs I think you write about that hurt.

I personally just go with "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" approach. I'd rather not get into any confrontations, regardless of my view on something. There seems to be a lot of that on here at times.

Thank you for a good article. I agree with you. there are people here on gather who just like to be mean.. Then there are people who like to write things that they know whill start a fight..or will bring out the trolls. They enjoy that. Because every time they comment back and forth. The writer gets more points
