I'm usually not one for "super hero type" movies, movies with lots of special effects, or movies that demand that the viewer suspend their sense of reality. Last night we watched "Hancock" starring Will Smith, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, although it contained all three of those categories.
Here's what Wikipedia says about the movie:
Hancock is a 2008 American comedy-drama superhero film directed by Peter Berg and starring Will Smith, Jason Bateman, and Charlize Theron. It tells the story of a vigilante superhero, John Hancock (Smith), from Los Angeles whose reckless actions routinely cost the city millions of dollars. Eventually one person he saves, Ray Embrey (Bateman), makes it his mission to change Hancock's public image for the better.
The movie is rated PG-13, but I'd be comfortable watching it with children much younger than 13.

Good call, Vicky. I second your recommendation.
Kay, I love foreshadowing. I knew something was up between those two, but it was a shock when it was revealed.
Heather, we needed something a little light-hearted last night, and it filled the bill.
Kris, I'm not surprised you liked it, too. We have reading tasste in common, too.
sharon, there's lots of little laughs in this, and also some almost tears. I think you'll like it.
Roy, well, we will just agree to disagree on The Dark Knight. Do you think Ledger will get the Oscar?
Dorian, if you have kids, they'll really love it.
Carla, I don't even remember it being on the big screen. We're sort of "out of it" culturally.
Thank you for posting to this group whose only purpose is to thank you for posting to this group.
I didn't know Will Smith was a sort-of Scientologist. (He apparently claims he isn't, on account of being a Christian, but he gives them tons of money.)
