Yesterday something happened to my AC/heater. The fan wouldn't stop blowing. Assuming there was something wrong with the thermostat, we went to Lowe's to get a new thermostat. Which of course didn't solve the problem, but that's another story!
Lowes already has its garden department set up. It is the one place in the store I can't resist. Even though its not fully stocked I still found some things to buy. I bought 3 blister packs of romaine lettuce, which is sitting in my windowsill. I'm going to plant them in boxes and let them grow inside since they'll be ready to start picking before our last freeze date. I can't wait for the first picking of fresh homegrown lettuce!
I also bought 2 blueberry bushes. They are on the kitchen table to get sun during the day. They'll also stay inside until after the last freeze date, which is March 17th.
Because it is so early I kept myself from buying all the plants I wanted. It took an awful lots of self control!
Today the high is supposed to 75 degrees. Peferect to work in the garden. Which means I'll be clearing out the weeds and crap that grew in the vegetable gardens during the fall and winter, playing with the compost pile, and generally getting the soil ready for planting.
I've already pretty much decided what we are going to grow this year. I'm looking forward to spring so I can get everything in the ground and watch it grow, not to mention eating it!
