THOUGHTS SENT TO A SPECIAL FRIEND
© Robert C Burnham
I don't really know him
But he's a father to a friend
You can see he really loves her
And he will until the end
They haven't had no body else
For many years gone by
She'd never think of leaving him
Just the thought would make her cry
Now they have another sorrow
Which together they must face
Age catches up with all of us
And puts us in our place
But when I think of family life
Dreaming of how it should be
My friend's father comes to mind
He gives his love so free
And he doesn't have to wonder
About walking his road alone
She will strut through any fire
To keep his heart her own
When she was a little girl
It was his hands, made her strong
He'd hang her drawings on the wall
And In his heart he'd keep her song
Now she's the one standing tall
Not letting go his love
She'll wrestle with the Devil
And she'll pray to the One above
I hope that she'll understand
Why I'm writing this all down
Because I love her and her dad
And it's great having them around.
So, my friend, how can I convey
That I'm with you in this flood
Each one of these words I speak
I'll be glad to pen in blood!

I agree with KEO, you have the biggest heart on Gather. That's why you were "Best Of" this week. Cheers, Julia

Have A Great & Powerful Day W/J
I figure in about another five years, I'll have enough points for a $50 Borders card. LOL!
OK.. going back to being AWOL for another week. This break has been really refreshing.
I think of it as little rewards.....
Rest easy
I'm glad she has a friend in times of trouble.
My Dad had a stroke last week, then my Mum had a fall,
they're recovering OK but my heart's bouncing like a ball.
Long term of course the prognosis is not good,
they have had more than their three score and ten.
Some day we shall all have to face death as we should
Those left behind have to carry on with their lives then.
Your poem says that when needed you could
be there as a shoulder to cry on, her true friend.
