One thing I've really noticed with this school district and the last one the kids were in, is the lack of funding for field trips. I don't blame them, honestly, but it is disappointing. Last year was the first time I had Gilly in school for half a day, and would have been able to help with some field trips- and there weren't ANY. Not a single one!
So far this year, there has only been one, and it was a walking field trip to the high school next door to watch a play. They didn't request any parent help for that one, so I didn't know about it until the night before, and I had things that had to be done the next day.
Yesterday, Chris brought home a permission slip for a field trip next week to the state Capitol. Granted, it's only 1 town over, but it's still a fun field trip! It's on Thursday. They did request (if the parents COULD, they didn't say it was required) a $2 fee to help cover the $230 it costs for the bus, the driver rental, and the gas (the school board makes them cover it from school funds).
I signed up for the field trip. It's an all day field trip, so we're bringing a sack lunch with us. I will bring my camera so I can snap some pictures. The only time I've been inside the Capitol building here in Michigan was when Raegan was an infant. My sister was 9 and had a field trip there, and asked if I could chaperone. Raegan's sitter canceled, so I had to bring her with me. It's a lovely building.
It should be a fun opportunity!
