I confess. I don't try to do so often, but I have occasionally succumbed to the practice of posting an item solely for the purpose of elicitation. I know. It's a sign of weakness, but sometimes it just feels good!
I've posted elicitational items about all sorts of things: nipples, male appendages, polarizing political leaders, nipples, Senators from Idaho who visit our beloved MSP airport, nipples... it's a long list. Sometimes I make such posts in the guise of humor. Sometimes there's a bit of intent-to-mildly-irritate mixed in (primarily targeting those who seem especially politically obtuse, in my humble opinion.)
Then, of course, there is another sort of post: the felicitation. The felicitous post is intended toward a different impact entirely. Such a post serves to help the recipient (or the reader) feel happy, joyful or just plain better. What a concept!
Traditionally, upon a couple's engagement, we are to offer our congratulations to the man, and our felicitations to the woman. I was several highly embarrassing years into my adulthood--the very stage of life when it seems that friends are getting engaged every other week--before I realized that I was supposed to be offering felicitations to the lovely woman, rather than solicitations. It actually worked out alright a few times {refer to solicitations; specifically re: allurement.} But that's a tale for another time. I don't fully understand the reasoning here, but I guess the idea is that the guy won some sort of a prize, and the gal... well, hmm... there you go dear, hope you can make the best of things... ?
Thus far, I've presented these two classes of posts as fairly distinct from one another... as if there were an either/or kind of relationship between them. In fact, there is no such firm distinction... a felicitation can be elicitous, or vice versa. (It can also be illicitous, but again, that's a story for another time. Truly, posts about nipples can achieve all three!)
My question to you as follows: Serving as your own judge, which type of posts do you tend to make? Possible responses, among others, might include: Strictly felicitous, strictly elicitous, often duplicitous, highly solicitous, sometimes illicitous, or (the catch-all category, and my personal favorite) cheesy. Please also provide a brief assessment of you motivations for the tendencies you've identified.
(Note: If you make frequent posts using boldface type, ALL CAPS, or BOTH, and then proceed to use the first five paragraphs of your post to make pre-emptively dismissive remarks about the poor judgment of those whom you presume as soon-to-be persecutors of the post you are about to make... ***gasp!***breathe!*** ...well, you'll need to rigorously defend any claims of intending only innocent, well-wishing felicitous-ness with your post. Seriously. Just saying...)

The bold and the italics cancel each other out by the way.
Secondly, I went back and edited those very items that were both boldface and italicized, setting them to one or the other. Upon returning after the edit, your comment was waiting!
