A wounded member of the cult of Dear Leader Bush II attempted to find some honor in the failed administration of the AWOL-in-Chief.
He invited Gather members to identify the things for which they are grateful to the disgraced former President.
I challenged his comment that no one had expressed gratitude to Bush, and offered my own reson for gratitude.
This is the comment:
Clark Kent just published an excellent article thanking ex-President Bush for the destruction of the Republican Party for another generation.
Personally, I am grateful that Bush succeeded wildly in destroying the power of religious and free-market fundamentalists for many years to come.
It was a long eight years, but time enough to demonstrate the dreadful errors of every part of the "Bush Doctrine".
The author has refused to permit this comment to appear.
There is very little to read in the two-sentence article, but here is the link:

I'm even more surprised he was able to string two coherent sentences together. Maybe your comment intimidated the poor creature, Granddragon or whoever it was.
Anyway, if you don't mind, I'll post mine here in case he 'forgets' to approve it there.

Meh. Good riddance. I'll thank him for not manufacturing a National Emergency in Iran and suspending elections so he could stay in office longer. Thanks for that. Thanks for leaving.

Something tells me.....that's not gonna see daylight on HIS posticle! :o)

I love being deleted.
Excellent, Doyle!
That must be the reason, Kris!
:-)
Most deleting is done by folks with the worst arguments and the worst information, Sharon.
In this case, the coward only accepts comments that agree with his point of view.
Another excellent reason to be thankful, Sheryl!
:-)
Don't forget worst spelling, grammar, and punctuation. I need to check the voter registration cards and see if they've added that as a requirement for registering Republican. Or maybe they just think they're using biblical spellings for everything.
I thank President Bush for giving pundits and late-night talk show hosts so much good material to work with. I'm afraid the joke market is going to tighten up under President Obama. There's nothing more pathetic than an out-of-work pundit with a shortage of joke material.
I thank President Bush for making me glad that I grew up poor. I had to work hard for my grades, get into college on merit rather than a Legacy, and get/keep a job based on performance. Along the way, I (of necessity) picked up some education, some practical skills, and the ability to speak and write English. He provided an example of what is wrong with the Silver Spoon and Nepotism method of getting ahead in the world.
I thank President Bush for promptly leaving so we could celebrate his departure in style it deserved. I wish him all the best in his well-earned obscurity.
I don't know how I could have forgotten these qualities, Sandy.
It seems that this is so, Wil.
Splendid points, Ada.
I can't think of a better argument against "legacy admissions" than that one offered by the Shrub.
Your sorrow is understandable, Brian.
I can understand rage, horror, and amazement, too.
Your thoughtful remarks are appreciated, Liz.
I believe that everyone can understand some situations in which comment approval might be appropriate.
Undefensible political pronouncements would not fall in that category.
I'll repeat my comment from Kris M's thread: Thankful that W didn't rescind the Amendment limiting Presidents to two terms.
Truly, this failed administration was very unfortunate for the nation, Rita.
Hi, Dannielle.
The country got a break after the 2006 elections - Bush became a very lame duck.
Thanks for pointing this out, Miss Havisham.
I loved Sarah's comment comparing Bush and terrorist attacks to a charm against Rhinos in the house.
It is even more delightful when you realize that the defensive jerk who declines comments is clueless about the irony.
but the status quo is very entrenched, and mud can be sticky if the Republicans decide to not cooperate.
I am skeptical of closing guantanamo, withdrawing from iraq, and stepping up afghanistan, as well as the stimulus package, and green economy... but i think it will work out. we are in serious trouble, and i just hope the people realize this has been part of the Republicans plans to drown the government in debt in order to disable it.
Bit of creative writing might get through the barriers!! Irony. Humour. Metaphor. Simile. Eh????
I cannot say that I am sorry to see the disappearance of an article that does not permit any contradiction, Ishbel.
I feel the dame way, Miss Havisham.
It was true in this case, jerome.
I could not agree more, Sandy.
Even some Republicans now wonder if "making government fail" is a reasonable policy for a political party seeking power.
I wondered about that, too, Timothy.
There are some astute Gather members who pay attention to the appearance and disappearnace of identities. Many "alters" can be "flushed out" that way.
I am not dogmatic about never approving comments, Liz, but I appreciate the thought that you have given to your decision.
I did not mean to overlook your comment, Don.
Alas, I do not think indictment is likely for Bush - I think that there may be criminal charges related to investigations in the DOJ.
I also predict that more criminal charges are likely to be made as honest and reasonable people take responsibility in the Department of the Interior.
Just today, criminal negligence was (at LAST) charged in the eloctrocution of sodiers in Iraq.
All his violations of the law must be brought to light or the next bad president could be even worse.
You know that those that refuse to recognize history are bound to repeat it or something like that.
I believe that the extent of wrong-doing must be measured and acknowledged.
Glad to see the article appear with comments, Liz.
I have scores of pending Friend Requests.
I found that they can be very useful when I need to sneak into a "Friends Only" comment thread.
