I like this title so I think I will copyright it here and now:
Shedding Light All Over The Map - by Mariana Titus - first, a group and then who knows! The husband prefers the name Shedding Lite - we'll copyright that too - Ok here we go!
Greetings my dear Gather friends. Shedding Light is the name of a new group I have just begun. You can join this group by going to www.springpounds.gather.com . I did not send out a mass invitation because it's not for everyone. It is for those of you who want to lose ten pounds by March 21 in a healthy way. It is a challenge that I am giving myself.
Several folks have joined already. Each person has an individual reason for wanting to shed pounds. Each person has a reason to hold on to pounds. It is up to each person to figure out why you are carrying around those extra ten pounds that you do not want anymore.
This is not about who we were but who we are and where we want to go. Yes, it's only ten pounds but ten pounds or a hundred, we have to start somewhere. You can not finish writing a book until you have written the first paragraph. That paragraph is the first ten pounds.
First of all, lets all try to be honest. Don't be ashamed if you weigh 300 pounds or more. Stating it is the first step in acknowledging those pounds. Every single one of those first ten pounds represents something. Let's just say for instance, you are holding on to anger. Write down one reason why you are angry. Perhaps, it's resentment that you have inside of you. Write it down. Perhaps you are worried about something you have no control over. Write it down. I am sure that if you take all your worries, anger, resentments, bad memories and hostilities, you can come up with ten.
Maybe not. Some folks don't have a care in the world. They just don't drink water so therefore they can not clean the inside of their bodies - they can not understand why they have thyroid problems, kidney stones, constipation, arthritis and many health problems that mere dehydration causes. Drink water. I know that most folks that I know drink one or two glasses a day. They actually think that any liquid counts. No, I don't think so. Water is water. Pretend that first glass hydrates your feet, the next glass goes up to your knees and so on. Watch your animals when they are sick. They instinctively drink more water. Your skin and hair will shine, believe me!
Many folks are happy, carefree, drink eight glasses of water a day yet...they do not move. Folks, I always think back to those old days when we had to move to survive. If you can't walk long distances, then walk around and pick up sticks, reach up, pick fruit off of trees - reach, stretch, bend, MOVE! It doesn't matter if you just start off standing in place - that's good enough. Lift up your legs, lift your arms, slowly bend down and touch your toes.
Some of us just plain overeat the wrong things. That is my problem. I drink wine every single evening. Now, I won't drink it until spring except for some weekends or special occasions. When I drink wine, I want a piece of cheese or something salty. Then, I want something sweet. You know how that goes. A calorie is a calorie - 3,500 calories make a pound.
The object of this group is to make each of us aware of changes that we need to make in order to be a little more healthy. If we all achieve our goals, we will graduate in the spring with honors. Let's each post something to the group describing ourselves and why we want to lose those ten pounds. We'll all work together. Thank you for reading this and thank you for taking this challenge with me. Salud

Thanks to you Mary! SAlud
Also, I have to add, that thanks to your motivation to make these changes, I have found a whole new career path! I love being healthy and working out! I've decided to get my diet and nutrition certification as well as my personal trainers lisence and intend to start my own weight loss program. I'm hoping the market will open up and I'll be able to specialize in overweight teenage girls. That's my hopes, dreams and plans anyway! I just have to say thank you for kicking my rear in gear and heading me out on this wonderful journey that has so changed my life for the better!
Please give us a post and hang around, I am always happy to hear from folks I've tried to help - and we will all be behind you on your future career! Salud
Thanks very much Kay! Salud
Thanks Christy...Ok folks are you drinking your water? Salud
Sophie - our main goal is the ten pound weight loss by spring but in having this one goal, we can talk about what changes we have made - it's actually very basic and we're working slowly - because awareness is the key and you'll love some of the women in there...Thanks for joining, Cheryl, Sophie and Connie. I look forward to your posts. SAlud
Thanks for keeping us on our toes!
