In the early morning
Just before dawn
I make my way downstairs.
Into the kitchen I tread softly
Measure the Starbucks
And fill the pot with water.
Tuck is impatient and stands
by the door restless to get
outside and discover the
scent of wild creatures who
have visited in the night.
Sophia and Ophelia weave
in and around my slippers
hoping for some can fish.
Finally, morning chores
accomplished, with coffee
in hand, I sit at the computer
as sunlight dances in my window
A new day is about ready to begin.

You got sun up there before we did, Bob. It's just coming out now. And I need to get out the door because we got fresh snow overnight and I need to get out in it.
I love the painting on the wall. Strange, I was out with Fran after my house burned down in 2002 and I happened to see it in a gallery. I told Fran that I loved the lace curtains blowing from a summer breeze through the open window. Eighteen months later when I was ready to move into the new house, what does Fran give me for a housewarming gift but the painting.
No day is ordinary....one never knows what might happen or who might call. If you approach each day as a gift from the Gods, you won't squander it.
That is my hope....I think the world is waiting with hope to see what will come from this new administration.
The painting is done by Barbara Applegate. She lives in Maine...her gallery is about 6 miles south of Damiscotta. Google Applegate/painter and you can see some of her work: landscapes, interiors, and stilllife.
thanks for the ray of sunshine, bob-friend.
You forgot to post this to Poet's Weekly Muse! I think it is marvelous and filled with love,
light, and promise.
Morning sunlight fills us with the power to move mountains.
You have to realize....I have a difficult time even thinking I can write poetry...never mind posting that which I write to a poetry group. But just now I did edit and sent it on its way to Poet's Weekly Muse.
Rays of sunlight
Dancing on my wall
Snowflakes from heaven
Cleansing us all.
Rejoice! A new day
Is About to begin.
My girls first need their tuna
Then, it's out the door to sit
Under the bird feeders with
Hopes of dessert.
I spent my morning today first shoveling snow with reading breaks with Beryl. I'm finally reading the "scent of God". Then I decided I needed to take pictures of the newly fallen snow and as I made my way back up on the porch, I decided that I should try once more to take pictures of birds at the feeder. Yesterday I tried and was not very successful. Deleted all the pictures. Today I laid on the porch, quiet as a mouse, hoping the birds thought I was part of the house. As yet, I haven't downloaded them so I have no clue what I got.
After a bowl of soup and a half sandwich, I settled down on the couch and finished Beryl's book. It was so wonderful to go inside her mind...God, she's honest...and discover her journey. She is just an amazing woman.
I was so intrigued with the window shadows. I took these as well as a few more images in other parts of the house trying to capture that early morning promise.
By the way, Barbary had a link to your site in her January Muse article which I followed. Bruce's watercolors are exquisite. I love the cards with your poetry and need to stop by there again.
I am so happy you stopped by. My intent was to spread hope.
That is a joyful way to start any morning. I can just see Tuck impatiently waiting while you prepare the Starbucks :) I love the photos. They are relaxing just to view.
Tuck is incredibly patient....but once outside, he's a whirlwind running and sniffing everywhere. Living in the woods on the backside of the pond we have raccoons, opposums, and skunks visiting in the night.
Congrats for your feature!
cheers,gayle

Do you intend to reply to all the people who gave you such lovely compliments two years ago? LOL! I'm finding it hard to keep up with everyone.
