We went to the discount movie theater today to see Quantum of Solace. It was a pretty good movie.
I think that Daniel Craig makes a very interesting Bond. I like the way Bond is becoming more complex as he ages.
But I would really have liked it if the movie had had more plot to go with the non-stop action. And I would strongly suggest that you not bother to see it unless you have already seen Casino Royale. And if you haven't seen Casino Royale in a while, you might want to rent it and refresh your memory so that you can recall all the details, which I was straining to do all through the movie. This is a direct follow-up to that plot, and they constantly refer back to it throughout the movie, but they don't give any real recap at all.
There are some odd jumps in the editing, too, which make the plot confusing. For example, there is a time when one character tells Bond he has answered all of his questions about a certain subject, but the audience is never shown the questioning scene at all. I was sitting there thinking, what? when? when did that happen?
It's very obvious that the director deliberately made sacrifices in the plot to have time for pack in the violent action. I think, though, as I already said, that if you watched this movie and Casino Royale back to back, the whole thing would make a lot more sense.
And I would still give it seven out of ten.
