Old Couple Missing From Cruise Ship

LONG BEACH, Calif. —  The Coast Guard suspended its search Saturday for an elderly couple believed to have fallen off a cruise ship between Long Beach and northern Mexico.

The aerial search for the 90-year-old man and his 79-year-old wife was halted after officials determined that their chances of surviving in the water were slim, said Chief Warrant Officer Scott Epperson.

How do so many people find a way to fall off these damn cruise ships all the time.  They need to put up higher guard rails, or some kind of netting so people stop getting tossed over.

My thought is, who is to say they did not plain it?

I would never go on a cruise, I couldn't handle seeing no land.
Do we really know what happened to this couple?
Maybe they jumped. They were older and who knows maybe one of them was deathly sick and they wanted to die together. You never know.
I just don't get these-I was on a cruise a while back, I never even went anywhere near the railing, I did get a buzz now and again and still was in no danger of falling off the ship! I just don't get it!!

That's so sad! I really hope that they find them. And I hope they find them alive. How do you just disappear... unless you don't want anyone to find you.

We've been on 2 cruises and I think they are one of the best ways to travel. I can't imagine how people "fall" off unless they are pushed overboard.

I've been on two cruises too and I loved every minute. I cannot imagine how anyone could fall off accidentally. You'd have to either jump or be pushed.

I heard this earlier today on the news. I must say that in light of all the disappearances on cruise ships lately that their appeal is getting lower all the time.

That's so sad! How can they just disappear? Cruises aren't very safe if people can just vanish! That's scary to think about! :(

We go on cruises every year and I do not see how anyone can just fall off. Even if your really drunk you would need to be climbing up on the rails and leaning over and even then i just don't see how it could happen accidently so much. I love to go on cruises and this past yr we took our son who was 11 months old at the time and still had fun and found it to be very safe
