Record Breaking Temperatures In Iowa

Many records in Iowa were broken last night or I should say early this morning with-30 and colder. Tomorrow morning is supposed to be as cold or colder.  We were at -22 this morning at my place.  The wind was not  factored into that.  Actually the winds were not bad here today, I went outside and cleaned the snow off my car and starteded it to let it warm up.  Our high was -12 and I hadn't used the car since Monday so thought I'd better warm it up.  I was dressed warmly and was out for about 20 minutes.  I had to shovel around my car after I cleaned the snow off.

Tomorrow school has once again been canceled due to cold. That is the first time I can remember in the 25 winters I have lived here having 3 days in a row with no school . We have over 10 inches of snow on the ground which isn't a terribly lot but does keep the temperatures down.

I have everything I need here so I can stay home and warm. How thankful I am for that.

The artic area is hitting us too...it's suppose to be 5 by Saturday...and we may break records here in GEorgia.

here in northern virginia, everyone is freaking out because it is going to be 11 degrees tomorrow night! lol! we are lightweights compared to where you live!!!!

It was -9 in Columbus Jct, IA around 7ish. That is without the windshield. Its going to be very cold and I keep going out in the weather.

We were at -15 at 8am this morning. I was shocked! That was before wind chill as well. We're supposed to be "warmer" tomorrow, but it's one of those "-1, but feels like -17" days. Ugh!

School didn't cancel for it, though. I kept the younger two home, and picked my oldest up early. Tomorrow is a half day, but I told Nick if either the "feels like" or actual temp is in the negative double digits, to let Rae sleep, and I'll just call all three kids in. Those temps are way too cold for being out.

When I see and read about the temps in Iowa and North and South Dakota, it makes me think I need to be grateful, although 20* is hard to take here. We are supposed to be down to 10* in the morning. At that temp the car may seriously not start. I am glad you can stay in and stay warm while the weather is so brutal. It's always good to be stocked up for just such occasions. Do you have some warm and cushioned slippers to keep your feet toasty?
Our heater hasn't gone above 71 in the house tonight (earlier today, it was in the mid 60's) despite having the temp set in the high 70's (in the hopes of getting the house warmer). Normally, we have it set at 71, but the temp in the house wasn't rising above 65 when we had it that low.

I think we may be breaking one here tonight. It is supposed to get down to 5 degrees here. We have not been below 5 degrees in over 5 years.

Yikes! We are supposed to get hit with some snow tonight as the low temps set in here. I'm thinking about keeping my daughter home from school tomorrow.

It is -20 here right now and that is not including the wind chill. they said on the news tonight it was like -37 with the wind chill. Thats here is Indiana by lake Michigan. Tommorow is the first day our schoold here have closed but everyone else around us has been closed the last 2 days.

It's going to be a long hard winter. Be careful all you folks on the plains and east of the Great Lakes. Temperatures like the ones mentioned above can kill you when you are not paying attention.

That is pretty cold. We've had mostly warm weather and it's only now getting cold and we haven't seen any snow yet.
