Miguel D'escoto Brockmann, a former foreign minister of Nicaragua and the current president of the United Nations General Assembly, says "once again, the world is watching in dismay the dysfunctionality of the Security Council."
It is astonishing that the UN Security Council cannot swiftly call for an immediate ceasefire and condemn the killings of hundreds of civilians and children in Gaza because some of the permanent members of the Council simply veto any discussion in order to protect their allies.
Instead of being an organization that can effectively help in time of crises like the current one in Gaza, the UN looks irrelevant and completely dysfunctional.
Over 200 children were brutally killed before the UN Security Council was able to agree to call for a ceasefire.
How many more will have to die before the Council agrees to condemn the killings of innocent people and put real pressure on both sides to end the conflict?

MJ,
Why would Hamas use their own people as shields? Why does Hamas take off their uniforms and blend in the local population? Why does Hamas set their headquarters is set up in a hospital? If you are going to blame Israel, you should be even handed and blame Hamas as well as their puppet master Iran
Unfortunate, but Hamas has chosen to put their own children in the line of fire.
If there is justice for all in the world, both Israel and Hamas will be charged for war crimes... only if there is justice for all, not only third-world countries.
Really, and you don't have a problem with Hamas hiding behind these children?
Israel must defend its citizens, and if Hamas chooses to endanger the lives of its children by using them as human shields, the blame must be placed on them.
When Hamas shows that it loves its own children more than it hates Jews, the conflict will end.
Now, Anyone or any thing in a war zone is a legitimate target. War does not diferentiate by age or sex. War does not recognize who owns what. War is just that, War not a humanitarian parlor game. When the man said "War is Hell" he was right. Wars end when one side is defeated or dead, not before.
