As I am getting closer to retirement, I am attempting to come up with ideas on a way to retire from my present position and work from home. I have heard of these "you can make 2,000 a month by stuffing envelopes' scams, but I am looking for honest work that I can do from home. I have heard about jobs available as a Medical Transcriptionist that sounds promising, but I cannot find out too much about it. If there is anyone out there that has any info or can lead me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated.

A little tip for you, find a home based business that corresponds to what your passion is. With that, you won't have a hard time dealing with it. I understand you are avoiding scams out there, so start from small. Don't be impressed with easy get rich schemes out there.
If you may be interested to have your own business and promote it online, this could help you. Simple Steps To Create Your Online Internet Business
There is NO get rich quick scheme, believe me! You will have to work at it, but once you get into something, you'll really need a great following to maintain it. Right now, there is money to be made online, for sure, but you need a legit website of your own to start.
Never pay for information, do your research online and you'll find all of the simple steps really are that simple but free :)
You picked a good one for off the top of your head I assume. Once upon a time I worked in medicine, ended up an RN before giving it all up to stay home with my son, but it started smaller. A Vo-Tech program for medical office, 6 to 9 months depending, I did the assisting, then learned coding the charges to do medical billing. Many an office and hospital I was in had a transcriptionist picking up tapes from doc and dropping off what she had transcribed, many other ways to arrange it, but they were paid quite well for it and there's always a market. I hadn't the patience for it with all the different accents among physicians I had trouble understanding their words and hated doing it, but most of the women love it. I think you have the right idea, and I would definitely check out the lead above from Dotcom. There's also Avon and the like if you have a lot of family and such that you could market it to. Always remember that none of us need much, just enough. Good luck to you in your endeavors, and hey lady, way to go!! Thanks for posting, MORE, MORE, lol!!! =~D

Hope these help!
I'll pray that you get the info
you're seeking.
Good luck!
The info above sounds promising though. I do mystery shopoing on the side when I feel up to it and I can tell you - even that if hard work for little money.:)
Surveys and more such opportunities can boost your earnings...
I use to sell Avon. Several of my friends sell items on ebay and other sites to make money.
Also good to have separate bank account to use only for your business.

Have you considered self-employment based businesses such as Mary kay, Mona Vie, Avon, etc. I agree with what one person said earlier - find your passion and make a business from it.
We're looking for ways to retire too... Good luck with your quest!
I'm hoping you found a good solution to your retirement/work at home idea - let us know, I, for one, am interested and curious - I'd love to do the same as you
(I never thought I'd be working 45 hours a week at age 62, but here I am!!)
I had no idea - I' glad you got some interesting answers.
I made most of my money from home, owning a home office business, but I have yet to find any lucrative internet opportunities. Most of the ads I had were in the phone book. My web site did next to nothing for me.
I have been looking for years. Right now, I just do sites like this and paying survey sites. It's not a ton of money, but it's something!
I would love to be able to work in my pajamas. LOL
i have no clue! but i hope you have recieved some good ideas!
very sorry no help here
I see that this article is about 6 mths old. Have you retired yet? I am of no help I am at least 20 years from retirement, but I do hope that you have gotten the help that you were seeking.
THanks for the video comments.
Thanks for all your nice commnets on my latest photos. Some people have been filing insurance clains for Drs. offices from home.

no idea. so sorry
Taking classes for a medical transcriptionist is looking better every day! The stress level at work is getting worse everyday and I am be moved from my job to a job that I had previously and I hated. Being so close to retirement, if I started classes now, I would be finished about the time in which I could retire!
Wishing you all the best with the class and after that too.
i hope you share with all of us
I don't have any idea. Sorry.
Hope it gets better for you Deb!! Still hanging on to my old job too!
I'm sorry to say I've heard that the envelope thing is a scam. Maybe making crafts for gifts might make some money? I just don't know. Best wishes.
