I know about the "Eve" connection beign from Africa, Neetah.
I think the Hardy Boys are saying his great great grandfather on his mothers side is the Irish. Although Black Irish is a term it doesn't mean negroid, but the deep Celt brand of Irish. But, having said that, Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy was black, and Irish!

Thanks for setting them straight, Georgiana. As I remember, black referred to their hair color, meaning that they had no Scandinavian genes in them. I'll bet they don't sell much blond hair dye in certain parts of Ireland. :)

The Irish aren't big on dyeing hair, too rural!
yes, the black Irish is the celtic blood, which is rumoured to have been mainly Spanish.

I had an Irish friend with black hair and dark brown eyes who could not spend a moment in the sun. I had another Irish friend with green eyes and curly blond hair. She tanned beautifully. My father's side of the family comes from Northern Italy. Some have red hair and green eyes and fair skin and some have olive skin and hazel eyes. Despite that, I have found that most people seem to think that because we are italian we should have brown hair and brown eyes.

Jennifer. The whole colour thing is strange, but no big deal. In Sevile, in Spain, they tend to be blonde with blue eyes, as the native population of the Balearic Isle, Formentara. They were settled by the Scottish and the original people were all named either Andreus or Andrea! Blonde haired and blue eyes. So many cultures sailed around the Med. that there are anamolies everywhere.
The black haired dark eyes Celts mixed with the Nordic races in the British Isles and you get the variety of colouring from that.

Thanks Georgianna for the comment, here to pay it back! :) I love the Irish music (even though I don't care for Obama)...it sets me Irish blood to boilin (whatever genes of it I possess, mutt that I am)! I agree with what you said about how looks can be strange...When people hear that I have Italian and American Indian in me, they say "Oh so that is where your nearly black eyes come from!", but no...my grandfather's parents where from the Piedmont region of Italy, near the Italian Alps and the Italians up there are all blond and blue-eyed (must be French or Swiss influence), and the American Indian is from my mother's side, and noone has my eyes in that line. Both me and my brother got them, and they are as common as dust on my dad's side, who are all Irish, Dutch, English, Scottish, French and German! Everyone seems to stereotype the Scottish as always being fair and redheaded, I have been told that my eyes are very common among the Scottish....beats me! I do know that everyone of my kids, when little all had reddish tint to their hair, though they are all dark headed now. :)

The Celts (pronounced kelts), are thought to have been from Spain. That is why the Nordic/Viking genes were mixed and in some cases overtaken in the Celtic regions of Britain. Ireland, Scotland, Cornwall, to name a few areas. Hence the balck eyes and hair and swarthy skin of those peoples.
