Homework Help: Washing your hands & brushing your teeth?

Chandler is doing his homework, one page is: Be A Germ Detector.

It asks if you wash your hands: Before, After or Before & After doing several tasks, etc.  The majority of them are cut and dry, no doubt whether you wash before, after or both.  The questions are things like; coughing, eating, going to the bathroom, playing in the dirt, etc.

 

However, #7 has my stumped.

Do you wash your hands, before, after or before & after you brush your teeth?

 

Seriously, I've NEVER thought to wash my hands before or after brushing my teeth.  Am I weird or what?  We answered with before, but I'm curious as to what you think!

At night I guess I kind of do before bed, because I wash my face before bed and bursh my teeth. But in the morning I don't think I wash my hands before I brush my teeth unless I have just gone to the bathroom before I do it.

I would think before but it could be before and after because your mouth does have a lot of germs so I could see how they could be transferred to your hands while brushing your teeth.

Not sure! I guess I'd say before too. That way you don't get germs from your hands on your toothbrush.

Hmmm, never have thought of that before but maybe my perspective as an immunodeficient person might help. Because I am at risk of infections, I have to be extremely careful and wash my hands frequently. In the case of brushing my teeth, I would think it would be before and after. Before because your hands are so close to your mouth while brushing it would be easy to transfer bacteria. After because I have noticed that while I brush some fluids from the brushing run down the toothbrush onto my hand and the mouth itself is full of bacteria.

Whenever I do remember to brush my teeth before bed (my toothpaste is prescription and can only use at night when I am not going to eat or drink anymore) I usually wash my hands before I brush my teeth because I do it after going to the bathroom.

I've never thought of it either, but if you consider the germ factor, I would say wash before AND after. If you think about it, you don't want to have dirty hands while you're brushing (and especially while you're flossing), but there are also tons of icky germs in your mouth, so I wouldn't want to spread those around that might get on my hands from flossing. Just a thought.

I wash my hands frequently, so I think that usually ends up being "before and after."
I'm a germ freak, so my answer would be both!

I would wash before. I guess the correct answer would be before and after. Before is important because you are dealing with hand to mouth contact. I would just rinse afterwards.

I never thought of this. I guess I do wash my hands first. because the first thing I dow hen going in to the bathrrom is go to bathroom. Than wash my hands and continue doing what ever else I need to do. Such as brushing my teeth or plucking an eyebrow.

hmm, interesting question. I have never thought to wash my hands before or after brushing, I mean I rinse them after if they get toothpaste on them.

I guess I would probably have answered the question with before. Be sure to let us know what the answer is.
