Parents lose custody of Nazi-named children Agency removes 3-year-old named Adolf Hitler, 2 sisters from N.J. home

 

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Three New Jersey siblings whose names have Nazi connotations have been placed in the custody of the state, police said Wednesday.

Holland Township Police Sgt. John Harris said workers from the state Division of Youth and Family Services removed 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell and his younger sisters, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell, from their home Tuesday.

Harris said family services did not tell police the reason the children were removed. Agency spokeswoman Kate Bernyk said it does not comment on specific cases.

The children and their parents, Heath and Deborah Campbell, received attention last month when a supermarket bakery refused to put Adolf Hitler Campbell's name on a birthday cake.

I think it's outrageous for someone to name their child Adolf Hitler given the connotation of that name. And, to also name little girls with Nazi related names is also a hideous thing to do. I'm not sure, however, if Children's Services had the legal right to remove the children from the home. My biggest concern is how the children are being raised if their parents are psycho enough to give them those names. I think the childrens' names should be changed in this particular instance. I sort of think it's good to take them away from parents like that but also sets up a precedence that I'm not sure we want in this country. After all, if the state can take away children from their parents because they don't like the child's name, what other names are they going to dislike and where does it stop? This is definitely an interesting case to follow.

That's really sad but I'm not surprised that people who would give their children names like that would have parenting issues.

Poor little boy is doomed either way. Being away from his parents, and probably his sisters, too, is really tough on a 3 year old.
Surely the family had done some overt actions that led to the removal.

Kimberly has a point about child protective services taking away children because of their name. I hope this is not the case.

But, on the other hand, that's why they get for making such a big stink over that cake issue.

I think it is sad to give those kids those names. I watched them interview the dad on tv and let me tell you this. In my opinion he is not a good dad. He seemed very ignorant and like it was no big deal to name his kid that. but he just had a look and so did his wife like they should not be parents
