Hmmm, so you have two choices for white vistas: One requires thermal undies, boots and a snow shovel; the other calls for shorts, flip-flops and a sand bucket. That's a textbook example of a no-brainer!
Once the decision is made to ditch the snowy north for the snow-white beaches of the Alabama Gulf Coast, it's time to figure out what to pack. In the summer, that's an easy decision, but winter packing can be a bit tricky. It does, on occasion, get nippy, so an all-bikini wardrobe stuffed into a handbag might not be the best plan.
The key to packing for winter beach visits is to pick items that can be versatile.
You will want to bring a jacket, so pick one that's lightweight but water- and wind-resistant. No matter what the weather, you'll have all bases covered with this choice.
Check the forecast at the last possible moment before packing to determine the outlook for daily wear. Keep in mind that sunny days on the beach are likely to feel very warm, but evening and overnight temperatures can feel quite chilly. If you plan to spend some time on the beach at night, bring along a sweater to wear under your jacket.
Of course, a dip in the ocean during winter months is not for the faint of heart, but be sure to bring along swimwear. You did, after all, book accommodations with a pool, right?
If you find yourself away from home without an essential item of clothing, keep this in mind: Boutiques, department stores, malls and outlet centers are just a short drive from any place you stay!
