Reservation life part three

Jake sat in the new house they built for Marietta looking around at all the nice things that Maddie had put into that house. Nice curtain at the kitchen window with flowers on it !! Tin ware that she gifted them for a wedding present it was green and matched the tea pot she gave them. Maddie went through the chest of quilts she had hand sewn for special occasions such as this. She picked out this plaid checkered quilt as a gift for them also. Jake already had pot and pans that were his Maw's cast iron best kind to use. He also had other blankets, some bed pillows which Maddie put some nice pillow slips on a bright pattern added a homey touch to the bedroom. She said, "Well Jake I best be getting back home to make supper for Chet. He gets mighty hungry working those horses to keep them in shape." Jake said, " How can I repay you Maddie for all the work you done and all the nice things you put in here ?" Just never mind about paying me Jake I was happy to be of some help to you and Marietta. See you tomorrow morning bright and early! Chet is so

Maddie started off down the road heading for home thinking how happy Jake was with what she had done in his new house to make it nice for Marietta. Suddenly she got this feeling that someone was watching her, it kinda scared her but she quickened her pace ! There was a rustle in the woods along the side of the road she turned to look but didn't see anything. Her knees were shaking from fear and she tried to walk faster but it seemed like she couldn't. Then there was Chet not far from where she was and she hollered to him to come quickly !! He heard the fear in her voice and ran fast as he could but the coyote came out of hiding then was about to attack Maddie !! Chet had his riata coiled up in his hand and lassoed that coyote before he got to Maddie and yanked the coyote down to the ground !! Then he tied it up so it couldn't get away. Maddie was right by his side trembling with fear. "There's nothing to worry about now Maddie that coyote isn't going anywhere right now. " "Thanks be to God that you were near or I might have been attacked Chet !! "

Soon Jake appeared all out of breath as he heard Maddie holler to Chet and he knew something was wrong. "I got here fast as my legs would carry me, but I see that you have things in control Chet." Then Jake saw the coyote tied up so it couldn't go nowhere. "Well, look what you got here Chet, a male coyote !! He was hungry enough to want to attack a human !! Looks kinds skinny too like he ain't 'et for a while. What will you be doing with him Chet ??" "Well I'm not sure what to do with him Jake. Maybe if we give him some food he will be alright but I won't trust him though. Better keep him tied up for a while till I figure what to do about him. " Chet went to get some dried deer meat and a pan of fresh water for the coyote and placed it in front of him. He gobbled up that meat and drank all the water then laid back down watching Chet and Jake, Maddie went into the house to start supper and get herself calmed down. After she prepared the food for cooking she went back outside to ask Jake to stay for supper. "There's plenty to eat Jake so please stay and eat alright ?" Jake said, "Yes Ma'am it would be my pleasure ! "

Maddie looked at that coyote but he didn't scare her anymore. She took a few steps toward him, he just laid right there didn't growl at her or make a move toward her. "You look like a wonderful pup, that would make a nice pet for someone after you get used to humans. What do you think Chet, Jake ?? Would there be a chance for him to become tame enough for that ? " Jake spoke, : Why sure Maddie he would make a nice pet but it will take some time to train him up right and I know just the man for the job. Walter brother of Marietta would love to train this pup he's good at doing that to. I'll go on up after supper to ask him what he thinks about it chances are he'll say yes. I have to go see Marietta to make plans for tomorrow I'm so excited thinking about getting married my stomach is tied up in knots!! I ain't never been with a woman in my life Chet. " Maddie had gone inside to set the table for supper. Chet said, " Jake there's nothing to be worried about young man. Everything will fall into place after you two get married I know that for a fact !! They went on in to eat the supper Maddie had prepared for them. Chet said the blessing over the meal and then Maddie served up the plates full of meat, potatoes, squash and cornbread too.
