Last week, President-Elect Barack Obama’s said that his economic stimulus plan will create half a million new green jobs for America.
“We’ll create nearly half a million jobs by investing in clean energy – by committing to double the production of alternative energy in the next three years, and by modernizing more than 75% of federal buildings and improving the energy efficiency of two million American homes,” the president elect said. These made-in-America jobs building solar panels and wind turbines, developing fuel-efficient cars and new energy technologies pay well, and they can’t be outsourced.”

The statement came as Obama discussed his plans to create 3 to 4 million new jobs nationwide. He also said that immediate and dramatic steps must be taken to reverse the current economic downturn.
As a candidate for president Barack Obama made it that clean energy and green jobs would figure heavily into his plan to invigorate the economy. As president-elect Obama has remained true to that commitment. But he can't do it alone.

Regarding the Sierra Club link, I once asked permission to bring a 2 x 4 ft. banner with me for a rally on the State Capital grounds. The rally was about citizens energy footprint, and I assumed they would have a spot for me somewhere. They e-mailed back that protesters must remain outside the marked barriers. I tried to explain, but to no avail.

All Things Considered, January 16, 2009 · President-elect Barack Obama says his administration's will work to "put people back to work" and revive the economy. During a visit Friday to an Ohio factory that makes parts for wind turbines, Obama cited alternative energy as a sector where jobs can be created.
Seems to have begun to happen, Don.
Don: "I don't think it's ready for prime time yet...."
Of course, the alternative is to continue to do what we have been doing. Checked the economy yet? And no less than Wal-Mart President and CEO, Lee Scott, noted in a recent interview with Charlie Rose, noted the effect of the surge in energy prices this summer on the current economic situation.
No, as this article indicates (as well as the above program I linked), renewables are going to be promoted in the current administration and congress.
