I have the MagicJack, so I don't have any surprises at all. My internet is through the local cable company and I have DirecTV for my satellite.

Thanks for the tips! I do this with my cable company. I have Vonage for my home phone and I love it! It's only $25 a month for local and long distance. When I had BellSouth and AT&T it seemed like we were paying around $60 a month.

We have our land line at the very basic. It is $10 a month and $14 in taxes. The only reason we even have it is because my grandmother who is 87 cannot hear me when I talk to her on my cell phone. If it was not for that we would not have a land line at all.

That should be illegal. They should NOT be able to bill you at once after "forgetting". That's ridiculous. But you do pretty much have to check monthly to get the best plan. Sad but true. :(

Man I wish I could get cheaper internet with my phone company! I live so far out in the boonies that the dsl doesn't run out this far! So we either had to go with SSSSLLLLOOWWW dialup (which we did at first) or satilite. We now have satilite at 70 bucks a month, ouch, but we need it for all the stuff I do online!

I dont have a homephone bill, but my work landline bill was very large one month so I examined he phone bill very closely and there was all sorts of stff that looked suspecious on there, on the very last page it said "other charges" that was $65 with no description of the services provided, so I had that reversed, then they had reversed some discount that they claimed was mistakenly applied to the bill, but that was not ture because the business line bill was always within $2 of the previous bill, so if they mistakenly gave me a discount how come there was never a bill that was $140 less than the normal amount? That one took a week to get reversed because they had to "research" it. But in the end I had just over $200 in charges reversed.

I have always checked my home phone and cell phone bill carefully, if they are not around the normal amount. I need to check to see if there are deals.

I wonder if I can drop long distance overall as I mostly use my cell phone for that. But, I think it would inhibit me from calling 800 numbers, but I'm not sure. I'm already bundled for home phone and internet.

I may check again to see if I need to rearrange things.

When I called the phone company to cancel my dsl and phone service they offered to lower my bill to keep me as a client. However dsl couldn't compare to the 16 mb service I am getting from the cable company at a lower price.

I only have a cell phone.. unlimited minutes and texts for $45/mo plus taxes. I don't want a home phone.. cell phone is just easier lol it has an ignore button.

Great tips.

We have vonage for our home phone, too. We technically live in town, but it's a town of about 200, out in the middle of nowhere (just to give you an idea, if you aren't military, you have to drive at least 25 miles to get fast food, even if you are military, you have to drive 20). We don't get cell phone reception very well anywhere in our house and not at all in the basement, which is where Elliott's play room, and my computer are set up, so that's where we are most of the time when we aren't sleeping.
