Heath Ledger Wins Posthumous Golden Globe Award

The Golden Globe Awards are now all handed out for the night and the results are in.  Heath Ledger, who died almost a year ago of an accidental perscription drug overdose on January 22, 2008, won a posthumous Golden Globe for his role as The Joker in "The Dark Knight."

The award was for the Best Supporting Actor category for movies.  Heath Ledger immersed himself in the role of the Joker, playing this character on par or more than the turn Jack Nicholson took at it in the 90's.  The dark character was a standout in the movie.  Memorable and shocking at the same time. Ledger rose to fame after breaking into American films, even starring with Mel Gibson in "The Patriot."

Ledger's portrayl as The Joker has been highly acclaimed since the movie made it to theaters last summer.

I have yet to see the movie but I heard and read that he gave an outstanding performance in the role.

I went to see it just because I heard he did a fantastic job in the role, otherwise I wasn't a huge Batman movie goer. He put the sociopath in The Joker in an intensely dark way.

From the clip they showed on the Golden Globes, it looks like a great performance. I feel bad for the other actors in the category, however, they didn't really stand a chance of winning. This was the only sure-fire bet in the bunch. I enjoyed the show, however, and now have a bunch of movies I want to see, including "Slumdog Millionaire."

I guess he really put his whole life and soul into this role, and undoubtedly took over too much. Perhaps this is a covert way of saying we should all take "the final pill"? It just seems like there is so much worship of darkness and evil taking place today. Not to take anything from what he did in this role, it's just unfortunate that there are so many bad influences. And we could use a lot more uplifting material from Hollywood, to be sure. I've been a Batman fan since the early years -- in fact, we once lost our official Bat Hook up on the roof of the high school! Thanks for sharing this!

I didn't see the movie. It's nice that he won. I'm sure his daughter will treasure the Golden Globe forever.

He did a really great job with the role. The only thing I remember seeing him in prior to that was "A Knight's Tale"--completely different role. It was hard to pair it as the same actor.
It was sad to hear that he had passed away.

My husband says it's a good movie, but he doesn't think it's good enough to dominate the Oscars...and I see today that it didn't. As expected, though, Heath Ledger did get a nomination for best supporting actor. RIP
