Tonight I made dinner for my family of 6 (well, only technically 5 of us are eating normal food!) for only $2.75!! Here is a run down of what we had:
*box of pasta (79cents)
*huge can of diced tomatoes mixed with 1/4 can of tomato sauce (49 cents for the diced tomatoes and 25 cents for 1/4 can of sauce)
*bread (this was free this week with some groceries I bought..some promo thing)
*Milk for the kids after
So far, this total is $1.53, I added the rest in for butter on the bread, parmesan cheese, and milk for a total of only $2.75!!!! That comes to only 55 cents per person. I am amazed....it is all part of my New Year's Resolution to become a little more frugal. I consider this a healthy meal: breads and grains, veggies, and dairy.

We've done almost completely pantry cooking so far this year. Tonight we did 2 weeks of shopping for $50. I'll probably need to buy milk and bread again over the 2 weeks, but we have enough meat and pantry items to get by with much less money.
We were really strapped for cash years ago. I remember weeks where we only had $20 for groceries. I did $1 meals back then .
I made macaroni and tomatoes which is elbow macaroni which you used to get for around .25 a lb canned tomatoes, a little butter, salt, and seasonings. It was a one pot meal and was actually quite tasty add a slice of bread and viola!
I was craving it a couple weeks ago and made it. I too am trying to focus on saving money like this. This was a wonderful post thank you because it refreshed some of my more frugal recipes!
3 Can's of Chicken Breast ( .89 each)
4 Boxes of Rice a Roni Garlic herb rice (.60)
3 Cans of green Beans and Green Tea
I mixed the chicked into the rice a roni while cooking it. Serves w/ green beans and green tea.
The extra bit of monies added to the above total..was for the butter and packet of Green tea.
:)
Always feels good when you can feed your army AND cut corners.
And I made a russian dumpling type dish, so it only cost me what a pound of hamburger does....and then the rest I already had (flour, eggs, oil, water, etc).
