Recently, someone started a group on here called "Make 'Em Laugh" and the first time I heard that, I thought of Donald O'Connor in Singing In The Rain. Donald O'Connor was one of the funniest, most physical comedians I've ever seen. I grew up watching him and Danny Kaye and Red Skelton and just loved all of them.
A year or so ago, a friend gave me an autographed copy of Danny Kaye's Around the World Storybook and I just treasure it. As a writer of children's stories, I love getting things like that. Who knows what it might be worth but it's priceless to me and when I move into my home, I plan to create an entire section to display things like that which I have collected over the years.
In recent times, there are few comedians who impress me. I love Bill Cosby and I admire Robin Williams' talent but I only watch him when he is clean because I just don't think it takes talent to be dirty. It takes a lot more talent to be clean and funny. I have listened to comedians who are wildly popular and everyone in the audience is laughing and I sit there without even smiling. I just don't find that junk funny.
Real humor takes intelligence and it takes no intelligence to have a filthy mouth. Anyone can use foul language. That takes no brains or wit or talent. In fact, as far as I'm concerned, people who use foul language need to go back to school and learn some better vocabulary.
Don't get me wrong, everyone slips once in a while and says things that aren't nice but I'm around people who don't seem to know how to get through a sentence without using a foul word. I think that says something really sad about those individuals.
Back to the humor stuff, though. One comedian I do find humorous on his TV show is Raymond (I don't even know his last name). I do get annoyed with him at times but he can be really funny.
So, do you have any favorites who can be clean?
