Here's what I've found works for me as far as losing weight and staying healthy:
1. Water is key. First of all it helps keep you feeling full. If you drink more water with your meals, you'll feel fuller faster. Second, it helps keep your metabolism going strong. If you are addicted to soda, don't deprive yourself of it straight off. I LOVED Coke. So, I limited myself to one small glass a day. Choose a time when you can savor. Pretty soon, I bet you won't even want it.
2. Exercise is also key. If you want to eat the foods that you want to eat, you've got to exercise. Get moving. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Pace when you're at work. The more you do, the better you'll be at it.
3. Diets never work. It's all about a lifestyle change. Eat whatever you want to eat, just eat less of it. It's about portion control and slowly working in those foods that are better for you. When you have a snack have some fruit or veggies and a little dip. Also, try new foods that are supposed to be healthful. You just might like them. For example, my husband and I have never liked wheat bread. However, we decided to try the new Sara Lee 45 and delightful. It's a wheat bread with only 45 calories per slice plus lots of Fiber. We were amazed at how good it is! You've got to be willing to try things.

Personally, I DO NOT drink liquids with my meal because that dilutes my stomach acids making digestion less effective. I either drink 30 minutes before a meal or an hour afterward.
One of my favorite "exercise without trying" techniques is to listen to Cajun/Zydeco music and dance when so moved. And if you know those genrés, you'll know that you'll be "moved" with every single song.
Today is one of my favorite days, every Friday morning KFAI radio plays Louisiana Rhythms, one of my very favorite radio programs and I dance for two hours.
Okay, I'm sitting right now as I write this; my heart's still pounding from the last song by Charivari.
We all need to be willing to try new things.
A lot of people think, oh I hate that...because they hated it as a child...but won't even try it!
My own additions to this: learn about food combining for better digestion (Harvey Diamond's "Fit for Life" and Herbert Shelton's books) and learn about the proper diet for your own blood type ("Eat Right for Your Type" by Dr. Peter D'Adamo). These made a big difference for me.
Keeping a chart of everything you eat in one day, even munch on. People get so surprise and say I ate all that.
God Bless!
