Taxable income over $600

I got an email from Epinions yesterday telling me they need my tax information, apparently I made just over $600 on there in 2008, so now I have to put that on my taxes. 

I just gotta ask, does the government really need to tax me on that $600.00?  I mean really, $600 in a year is not all that much and the governement is going to take even more of that away from me. 

Personally I think that is a really small amount to have to claim.  I think you should have to make at least $1000 for the government to take a cut of it.  But hey that's just me. 

What do you all think about this.

Actually you might come out ahead. I'm filing because I made $600. because I'm supposed to and because I'll get EIC. I see you have children so you might not have to pay in and might get some money for EIC. Also perhaps you can claim certain things as deductions such as using your computer but I'm not sure about that.

I think you should have to make WAY more than $1000 to get taxed!

I have to pay on my Gather earnings every year also.
Last year my Tax lady said that qualifies me as self employed!! Crazy!
If you're self-employed as a Gatherer, then you also get to take all the deductions of running a business...things like your internet connection cost, mousepads, a portion of your mortagage or rent for your home office space, computer parts and repairs...heck even a new computer.
I'm not kidding. I was once a corporate FCB. Being self-employed opens up a lot of nice deductions. You could end up getting money back from the IRS>

Don't forget to deduct your Internet connection because you wouldn't be able to get that "income" without it!

Self-employment is great for taxes, really. I was self-employed doing ebay for a long time, and I had tons of great deductions!

Taxes stink! I wish we would do away with income tax altogether. I would be willing to pay a higher sales tax if they would get rid of income tax. I'm probably alone in that feeling, but taxes stress me out! I'm always so worried whether I'm doing it right!

Yeah! It really stinks, I make barely enough to survive yet I have to pay taxes on that small amount.

Thats how it works. any earnings over $600 from a single source are taxed

Yes, you have to report all earnings on your taxes. If you have to file taxes, you have to report everything that you earned (regardless of whether you hit $600 from a particular source).

wow, after the changes years ago I didn't think it was possible to make over $600 in a year with epinions! The one year I did it and they paid either 10 or 30 cents per view I stopped at $585 cashing out to not have to worry about the tax thing.
