Just Like the Big Girls

She poses in the doorway
as the shiny SUV glides by.
She purses her lips in that way
she's seen the big girls do.

The SUV continues on by.
They are going somewhere
else, leaving her here.

She pouts at her loss.
She knows a ticket out,
just like the big girls do.

uh-oh! That poor kid. She might be getting herself into something worse than she'd be leaving behind. I'm glad I never felt like that. Very nice!

Unfortunately, this is based in reality. I was thinking of a story someone I know had told about passing through a one town where there was really such a little girl.
