I spend a lot of time in the virtual world of Second Life -- as well as a lot of time in online
games. But they aren't the same.
Second Life is far more than a 3D chat system -- it's a world and a culture of its own! Like real life, it's easy to look at the event listings -- there are hundreds every day -- and become fascinated and overwhelmed. So much to do!
Here are a few things I will be checking out this week -- maybe I'll see you there.
It's fashion week at Mantova. Can't make it to Milan this year? Come to this celebration of art and fashion and see what the international design scene can produce, travel free! Beside the runway there will be live music, photography exhibits, and much more. January 12-16 -- see web page for full schedule.
The new year has left my waistline a bit worse for the experience. But Nina Lancaster has a solution. A former assistant to British TV personality Paul McKenna, Nina facilitates a weight control club in SL. More and more of the counseling and therapeutic arts are finding ways to bring their benefits online. Ongoing series. There is a charge. See web page for details
RMBcity is a project I've been tracking for a while. A model Chinese city, RMBCity is both a virtual living museum and virtual home to Chinese and sinophiles from all over the world. Wonder what they'll be doing for Chinese New Year? But the opening ceremonies and celebration are Friday, January 9th from 6pm-8pm Pacific at RMBCity in SL.
And finally -- and admittedly I'm close to this one -- my fiance is Tuna Oddfellow in Second Life, voted SL's most talented avatar. We put on an amazing psychedelic light show and dance party -- usually to the tunes of SomaFM's Space Station Soma. But this week, Formatting Heliosense, the mind behind the seminal electronica radio series Electric Brainwaves, will be spinning the tunes live. Sunday, January 11th 11am Pacific at Oddfellow Studios.
Look for Shava Suntzu in Second Life -- and discover a whole 'nother world!
